Introduction
This special instruction provides the procedure to replace door latches for the engine enclosure on the H-series Motor Grader. There are two different procedures for repair. Both procedures will be covered in this instruction.Note: This repair should only be performed after failure.Safety Information
Before service work is begun, park the machine on a hard level surface. Block the wheels of the machine so unexpected movement will not occur. Unexpected movement of the machine can cause personal injury or death.
Burn Hazard: Engine components may be hot during and after machine operation.Hot components can cause serious personal injury. Do not contact hot components with bare skin.
Parts Needed
There are two parts groups for this instruction. The machines that are listed below will use the parts that are listed in Table 1:
120H (S/N: ALZ; 124; CAF)
135H (S/N: AMX; CBC)
16H (S/N: ATS)The machines that are listed below will use the parts that are listed in Table 2.
12H (S/N: CBK; AMZ; 125)
140H (S/N: CCA; 2ZK; APM; 126)
143H (S/N: APN)

The existing latches will be replaced with new latches and pawls. Replace all four latches upon any failures.Removal of the Old Latches
Start with the right rear door of the enclosure. Open the side door in order to gain access to the back of the latch.
Remove the four bolts and washers since new hardware is provided.
Clean the area in order to prepare for installation of the new latch.Installation of Replacement Latches

(A) 60 mm (2.4 inch)
Attach the supplied nut and attach a lock washer to the shaft on the latch assembly. Attach the pawl to the latch after the nut and the washer. Install the pawl so that the offset is closest to the back of the latch. Use 60 mm (2.4 inch) as a starting point for distance (A) from the back of the latch to the pawl.
Install the other lock washer and the nut to the latch shaft. Then set the position of the pawl by adjusting the two nuts. Make sure that the pawl is positioned in the opposite direction of the latch handle when the latch handle is in the closed position.

(1) Lock washer (2) Nut (3) Stud
Attach the 308-2206 Latch As to the service door. Use lock washer (B) and nut (C) for each of the studs (D) on the latch. Tighten nuts to a torque of 7 N m (5.2 lb ft).
Check for the seal on the frame of the door. On the front compartment doors, there should be a seal that runs the height of the doors. This seal runs the height of the door on the end with the latch assembly. On the rear compartment doors, there should be two 50 mm (2 inch) strips of seal. There should be one seal at the top and at the bottom in the corners of the door. These seals are located on the end with the latch assembly.

(E) 50 mm (2 inch) (F) 50 mm (2 inch) (G) 180 cm (70.8 inch)
Replace the seals with 5P-5923 Seal if the seal is compressed to 1 mm (0.04 inch) or less. Also, replace the seals if the seals are missing. On the rear doors, strip (E) and strip (F) should be cut to 50 mm (2 inch) segments. On the front compartment doors, strip (G) should run the length of the door.
Close the door and test the operation of the latch. The latch should not be tight with the door in the open position and the pawl in the locked position. Put the door in the latched position. The door should be held tight. If the door is not tight, adjust the nuts and the pawl until this is achieved. The front doors should have 1 mm (0.04 inch) of deflection over a 50 cm (19.7 inch) horizontal span when the doors are closed. The rear doors should have 1 mm (0.04 inch) of deflection over a 50 cm (19.7 inch)vertical span while the doors are closed.
Once the pawl is correctly positioned, tighten nuts to a torque of 22.5 2.5 N m (16.6 1.8 lb ft).Repeat the removal and the installation process for each of the other three doors.Instructi
