Information:


Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants put into the system may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
1. Bend lock tab (1) and remove bolt and nut (2).
Oil pump idler gear (3) can fall off oil pump (5) when oil pump (5) is removed. Personal injury can be the result. To prevent possible personal injury, always hold oil pump idler gear (3) on oil pump (5) when oil pump (5) is removed.
2. Remove four bolts and washers (4). 3. Remove oil pump (5) and the suction bell as a unit.
Be sure that idler gear (3) is engaged with the crankshaft gear upon installation. Be sure that lock tab (1) is bent onto the flat surface of nut (2).

Start By:a. remove oil pump
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants put into the system may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
1. Remove idler gear (1). Use Tooling (B) to remove bearing (2) from the idler gear. 2. Loosen bolt (3) from the drive gear one turn. 3. Use Tooling (A) and a press to remove the drive gear from the shaft. 4. Remove three bolts (4) and the washers and remove cover assembly (5). 5. Remove two bearings (6). Remove one O-ring seal (7) from cover assembly (5). 6. Remove two shaft assemblies (8) and (9) from body (10). 7. Remove bolt (11) and remove pressure relief valve (12) from body (10).8. Use Tooling (B) to remove two bearings (13). Remove one shaft assembly (14) from body (10).Assemble Oil Pump
Check the condition of the O-ring seals. If the O-ring seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. 1. Install the bearings in body (10) with Tooling (A) and a press as follows:a. Put bearings (13) in position on the inside of the pump body with the chamfer on the bearing facing toward the outside of the pump body. Make sure the joints in the bearings are at an angle of 30 15 degreesfrom the center line through the bores in the pump body and facing toward the outlet passage of the pump. The outlet passage has a cavity between the bearing bores.b. Install shaft (14) into body assembly. Maintain 30.50 0.25 mm (1.200 .010 in) protrusion from the face of body (10). 2. Install the bearings in cover assembly (5) with Tooling (A) and a press as follows.a. Put bearings (6) in position on the inside of the cover assembly (5) with the chamfer on the bearings facing toward the outside of the cover assembly. Install the bearings until they are even with the outside of the cover assembly at an angle of 30 15 degreesfrom the centerline through the bearing bores and facing toward the outlet passage of the cover assembly. The outlet passage has a cavity between the bearing bores.3. Check the condition of the relief valve. Check the condition and specifications for all the parts of the oil pump before it is assembled. See the topic "Oil Pump" in the Specifications Manual.4. Put clean engine oil on all the parts of the oil pump. 5. Install pressure relief valve (12) into body (10) and install bolt (11). 6. Install two shaft assemblies (8) and (9) into body (10). 7. Replace O-ring seal (7) in cover assembly (5), if necessary. Use three bolts (4) and the washers to fasten cover assembly (5) to body. 8. Use a press to install the drive gear onto the shaft.9. Use bolt (3) to fasten the drive gear to the shaft. 10. Use Tooling (A) to install bearing (2) into the idler gear. Install the bearing until it is even with the outside surface of the gear. Install idler gear (1) onto the shaft.
The oil pump must turn freely by hand after it is assembled.
