Information:
If a programmable parameter has not been programmed, the ECM will generate a 630-2 diagnostic code. The parameter that is not programmed will be listed under the code. The unprogrammed parameters will be set to default. Certain aspects of the engine performance and engine monitoring may be affected. If "Injector Trim" is displayed below a 630-2 diagnostic code on Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET), refer to Troubleshooting, "Injector Trim File - Install".System configuration parameters are parameters that affect emissions, power of the engine, and other features that define the characteristics of the engine subsystems. The parameters are preprogrammed at the factory. You may need to reprogram the system configuration parameters if the ECM is replaced and/or if you reprogram the engine rating. You do not need to reprogram the system configuration parameters if you replace the flash file. Cat ET can be used to view the values for these parameters. Certain system configuration parameters are stamped on the engine information plate.Parameter Descriptions
ECM Identification Parameters
Equipment ID
This parameter allows the customer to enter a description into the ECM in order to identify the installation. A maximum of 17 characters may be entered in the field. This parameter is only for reference by the customer. This parameter is not required.Engine Serial Number
Program the "Engine Serial Number" to match the engine serial number that is stamped on the engine information plate.Note: When you are requesting factory passwords, always use the engine serial number that is resident in the ECM.ECM Serial Number
The "ECM Serial Number" is stored in the memory of the ECM. The "ECM Serial Number" can be accessed by the use of Cat ET.Software Group Part Number
This parameter identifies the part number of the flash file that is currently installed in the ECM.Software Group Release Date
This parameter identifies the release date of the flash file that is currently installed in the ECM.Software Group Description
This parameter identifies the description of the application for the flash file that is currently installed in the ECM.Selected Engine Rating
Rating Number
The rating number corresponds to the selected set of performance maps that has been selected for this application. There may be more than one set of performance maps that are available for this engine. All of the maps are resident in the flash file for the engine.Rated Power
This parameter specifies the rated power of the engine.Rated Peak Torque
This parameter specifies the rated peak torque of the engine.Test Spec
The test spec identifies the specific set of test specifications that are used to benchmark the performance of new engines in the test cell. Use this number to retrieve data that is related to the engine specifications from the Technical Marketing Information System (TMI). The following information can be retrieved from TMI:
"As shipped consists"
"Engine test specifications"
"Systems data"
"Physical data"
"Gasket kit data"
"Reman parts"
"Performance data"A link to TMI can be found on the web site for the Service Information System (SIS).Speed Control
Top Engine Limit
Top Engine Limit (TEL) allows the full load (rated hp) speed to be programmed within the top engine speed range. This top engine speed range has a lower and upper limit and will span either 300 rpm or 400 rpm. TEL and high idle determine the engine overrun on the power curve for the engine. The overrun portion of the power curve will change as TEL and high idle are modified. The slope of the overrun curve is determined by the difference between TEL and high idle.Low Idle Speed
Low Idle Speed is a programmable parameter that allows the customer to program the engine low idle speed. Low idle speed is the minimum allowable operating speed for the engine.High Idle Speed
The high idle speed specifies the no load maximum speed for the engine. The high idle speed must be greater than the TEL and less than the maximum speed of the engine.Engine Acceleration Rate
This parameter controls the rate of acceleration during PTO and intermediate speed operations. Engine Speed Decelerating Ramp Rate
This parameter controls the rate of deceleration during PTO and intermediate speed operations.Engine Configuration Parameters
Ether Solenoid Configuration
This parameter must be programmed to "Continuous Flow" for a continuous flow solenoid and valve assembly.Direct Fuel Control Mode
When this parameter is enabled, the ECM accepts an analog input that allows an external governor to determine the fueling of the engine. When the engine is in direct fuel control mode, the engine operation is independent of all of the other strategies for the engine. Operation of the internal governor for the ECM is bypassed.Engine Idle Shutdown
This feature is used to shut down the engine during periods of extended engine idle. This feature will save the engine from the accumulation of service hours and the feature will conserve fuel. Engine Idle Shutdown Minimum Ambient Air Temperature
The idle shutdown feature will not be enabled by the ECM unless the ambient air temperature is above this setting.Engine Idle Shutdown Maximum Ambient Air Temperature
The idle shutdown feature will not be enabled by the ECM unless the ambient air temperature is below this setting.Engine Idle Shutdown Installation Status
Not AvailableEngine Idle Shutdown Enable Status
This parameter is used to enable the idle shutdown feature.Engine Idle Shutdown Delay Time
This parameter defines the idle time for the machine prior to automatic engine shutdown.
