Information:

Table 1
Event Code
Description Conditions which Activate the Code System Response
E243 (1) High Left Turbo Turbine Outlet Temperature The temperature at the outlet for the left turbocharger turbine has exceeded the trip point and the delay time has expired. The alarm output is activated. The code is logged.
E243 (3) High Left Turbo Turbine Outlet Temperature The fuel is shut off. The shutdown output is activated. The code is logged. The engine is shut down.
E244 (1) High Right Turbo Turbine Outlet Temperature The temperature at the outlet for the right turbocharger turbine has exceeded the trip point and the delay time has expired. The alarm output is activated. The code is logged.
E244 (3) High Right Turbo Turbine Outlet Temperature The fuel is shut off. The shutdown output is activated. The code is logged. The engine is shut down.
E245 (1) High Right Turbo Turbine Inlet Temperature The temperature at the inlet for the right turbocharger turbine has exceeded the trip point and the delay time has expired. The alarm output is activated. The code is logged.
E245 (3) High Right Turbo Turbine Inlet Temperature The fuel is shut off. The shutdown output is activated. The code is logged. The engine is shut down.
E246 (1) High Left Turbo Turbine Inlet Temperature The temperature at the inlet for the left turbocharger turbine has exceeded the trip point and the delay time has expired. The alarm output is activated. The code is logged.
E246 (3) High Left Turbo Turbine Inlet Temperature The fuel is shut off. The shutdown output is activated. The code is logged. The engine is shut down. Probable Causes
High inlet air temperature
Incorrect air/fuel ratio
Incorrect base timing
Exhaust restriction
A buildup of deposits in the cylinder or internal oil leaksRecommended Actions
High Inlet Air Temperature
Use Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat® ET) Service Tool to check for a E368 High Inlet Air Temperature that is active or logged. If the code is active or logged, refer to Troubleshooting, "Inlet Air Temperature Is High" for information that is related to troubleshooting the condition.Incorrect Air/Fuel Ratio
An air/fuel mixture that is too rich will increase the exhaust temperature. Verify that the exhaust emissions are correct. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Air/Fuel Ratio Control - Adjust".A change in the fuel energy content will change the air/fuel ratio. Obtain a fuel analysis. If the fuel analysis is as expected, inspect the NOX sensor port in the flower pot for plugging. If necessary, clean the port. If the problem persists, refer to Troubleshooting, "Detonation Occurrence".The fuel supply pressure must be 876 to 1289 mbar absolute or 12.705 to 18.695 PSI. The gas differential pressure (delta-p) should be between 69 and 345 mbar. Delta-p below this range is allowed during cranking and idle conditions, but accuracy of the valve will be reduced. For delta-p above 276 mbar, flow accuracy will also decrease, and a reduction in valve stability may occur. Minimum proof pressure for the fuel metering valve is 0.52 bar gauge. Minimum burst pressure for the fuel metering valve is 1.72 bar gauge.Incorrect Base Timing
An ignition timing that is retarded will cause the exhaust temperatures to increase. Verify that the base timing is correct.Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Ignition Timing - Adjust".Exhaust Restriction
Measure the exhaust restriction during engine operation with a load. For data that is specific to your engine, refer to Installation Guide, LEBW5339, "G3500 GAS ENGINES APPLICATION & INSTALLATION GUIDE". Also, refer to the engine performance data sheet.Investigate the cause of the exhaust restriction. Perform adjustments and/or make repairs, as needed.A Buildup of Deposits in the Cylinder or Internal Oil Leaks
Use a borescope to inspect the cylinders. Look for the following conditions:
Deposits on the valve seats
Deposits on the valve faces
Deposits on the cylinder walls that are above the upper limit of the piston stroke
Signs of internal oil leaksOther signs of internal oil leaks include high oil consumption and blue smoke.Note: Excessive deposits contribute to guttering of the valves. If excessive deposits and/or signs of internal oil leaks are found, investigate the cause of the condition. Perform the necessary repairs.
