Location of the detonation sensors (right side and left side engine views)
(1) Detonation sensors for the cylinders that are on the right side of the engine (right side engine view)
(2) Detonation sensors for the cylinders that are on the left side of the engine (left side engine view) The Integrated Sensor Module (ISM) supplies 8 VDC to each detonation sensor (1) and (2). The detonation sensors provide electrical signals to each ISM that represent mechanical engine vibrations that are directly related to the level of engine detonation. The signals are amplified and the signals are filtered. The frequency of the signal corresponds to the mechanical frequency of the vibrations that are caused by ignition detonation. The amplitude of the signal is proportional to the intensity of these vibrations. The ISM monitors the detonation sensors. The signals are monitored in order to determine the presence and the severity of the detonation. If detonation is detected, the ECM will reduce the gas substitution to the engine. No timing changes or shutdowns will occur. To avoid detecting vibrations not related to detonation, the ISM monitors for detonation during specific perio
