Information:
1. Remove access covers (1) from the sides of the engine. 2. Remove bolt (3) and cap (4) that hold fuel rod assembly (2) to the fuel control shaft. 3. Remove bolts (5) to remove lever assembly (6) and fuel rod assembly (2) as a unit from the cylinder heads. If necessary, use tool (A) to turn the flywheel until the camshaft is moved in a position so that the fuel rod assembly can be removed between the engine block and camshaft. 4. Remove cover (7) from the right side of the flywheel housing. Later engines use only one bolt to hold plate (8) to the camshaft.5. Remove the bolts, and remove plate (8) from the end of the camshaft on the right side of the engine.
Use the 8B7561 Step Plate of tooling (B) to prevent damage to the end of the camshaft during removal of drive gear (9).
6. Use tooling (B) to remove drive gear (9) from the end of the camshaft on each side of the engine. Remove the drive gears from the flywheel housing. 7. Remove the bolts, and remove washer (10) from the end of the camshaft on each side of the engine. 8. Push valve lifters (11) up away from the camshaft into the cylinder head assemblies, and hold the lifters in position. An O-ring seal can be used to hold the valve lifters up. 9. Remove the bolts and cover (12) from the front of the engine.
Typical Example10. Install tooling (C) on each end of camshaft (13). Tooling (D) can be installed on the flywheel housing to remove the camshafts from the rear of the engine, or it can be installed on the front drive housing to remove the camshafts from the front of the engine.11. Install tool (D) on the flywheel housing as shown.12. Install tool (E) on one end of tooling (C).13. Pull the camshaft out while rotating it with tool (E). Pull the camshaft out of the engine until a hoist can be fastened to it. Remove camshaft (13) from the engine. The weight of the camshaft is 63 kg (139 lb.). 14. Remove bolts (14). Separate the camshafts, and remove spacer (15).15. If necessary, remove the dowel from the end of the camshaft.Install Camshafts
Typical Example1. Put tool (A) in position on the flywheel housing as shown. Install the bolts that hold it. Do not tighten the bolts at this time.2. Install tool (B) on the end of camshaft (1).3. Install camshaft (1) in the engine until tool (B) is located in the first cam bearing.4. Rotate the camshaft, and tighten the bolts that hold tool (A) to the flywheel housing.5. Rotate the camshaft, and install it until the end of the camshaft is just out of tool (A).
Typical Example
Typical Example6. If dowel (2) was removed from camshaft (4), install the dowel in the camshaft. Install the dowel until the end of the dowel is 22.0 0.5 mm (.87 .02 in.) above the surface of the camshaft. Make sure the camshafts are installed respective to the marks (rear L.H., rear R.H.) on the ends of the camshafts.7. Fasten a hoist to camshaft (4). Put spacer (3) and camshaft (4) in position on camshaft (1). Put 9S3263 Thread Lock on the threads of bolts (5). Install bolts (5) to hold the camshafts together. Tighten bolts (5) by hand to a torque of 45 7 N m (33 5 lb.ft.).8. Install tooling (B) and (C) on the end of camshaft (4).9. Rotate and install the camshaft the remainder of the way.10. Remove the tooling from the flywheel housing and camshaft. 11. Install washers (7) and bolts (6) to hold the camshafts in place. 12. Remove timing pin (8) from the storage position on the side of the engine. 13. Turn the camshaft until timing pin (8) can be installed through the cylinder block and into groove (9) in the camshaft. 14. Remove cover (10) and plug (11) from the flywheel housing. 15. Put timing bolt (12) in position in the flywheel housing. Use tool (D) and a ratchet to turn the flywheel until the timing pin can be installed in the hole in the flywheel. The No. 1 cylinder is now at top dead center. 16. Put drive gears (13) in position on the end of the camshaft on each side. Later engines use only one bolt to hold the plates and drive gears to the camshaft.17. Install the plate and bolts to hold the drive gear to the camshaft on the right side.18. Install the tachometer adapter and the bolts to hold the drive gear to the camshaft on the left side.19. Tighten the bolts on the two bolt camshaft as follows:a. Tighten the bolts evenly to a torque of 100 15 N m (75 11 lb.ft.).b. Hit the plate and the tachometer drive adapter with a hammer to seat the drive gear.c. Tighten the bolts again to the same torque.d. Repeat steps 19b and 19c until the torque does not change.20. Tighten the bolts on the single bolt camshaft as follows:a. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 360 40 N m (270 30 lb.ft.).b. Hit the plate and the tachometer drive adapter with a hammer to seat the drive gear.c. Tighten the bolts again to the same torque.d. Repeat Steps 20b and 20c until the torque does not change.21. Install the cover on the right side of the flywheel housing.22. Remove the timing pins for the camshafts, and install them in their storage positions.23. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel, and install the plug in the timing hole. Remove tool (D), and install the cover on the flywheel housing. 24. Install the gasket and cover (14) on the left side of the front drive housing. 25. Remove O-ring seals (15) from the valve lifters. Push the valve lifters down against the camshaft. 26. Install fuel rod assembly (17) and lever assembly (16) as a unit in the cylinder head
