Introduction
New oil and fuel filters have been introduced for the C7.1, C6.6, and C4.4 engines.New 322-3154 Oil Filter Gp contains a 322-3155 Engine Oil Filter Element .New 368-3976 Water Separator and Fuel Filter Gp contains a 360-8959 Water Separator Element .New 360-8958 Fuel Filter Gp contains a 360-8960 Fuel Filter Element .Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8600, Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8602 and Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8606 or the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manual for your application for more information.Engine Oil Filter - Replace (Spin-on Filter)
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Drain the engine lubricating oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.
Caterpillar oil filters are manufactured to Caterpillar specifications. Use of an oil filter that is not recommended by Caterpillar could result in severe damage to the engine bearings, crankshaft, etc., as a result of the larger waste particles from unfiltered oil entering the engine lubricating system. Only use oil filters recommended by Caterpillar.
Remove the oil filter with a 1U-8760 Chain Wrench .Note: The following actions can be carried out as part of the preventive maintenance program.

Element with debris
Cut the oil filter open with a 175-7546 Oil Filter Cutter . Break apart the pleats and inspect the oil filter for metal debris. An excessive amount of metal debris in the oil filter may indicate early wear or a pending failure.Use a magnet to differentiate between the ferrous metals and the nonferrous metals that are found in the oil filter element. Ferrous metals may indicate wear on the steel and cast iron parts of the engine.Nonferrous metals may indicate wear on the aluminum parts, brass parts, or bronze parts of the engine. Parts that may be affected include the following items: main bearings, rod bearings, turbocharger bearings and cylinder heads.Due to normal wear and friction, it is not uncommon to find small amounts of debris in the oil filter. Consult your Caterpillar dealer in order to arrange for a further analysis if an excessive amount of debris is found in the oil filter.

Typical example
Clean the sealing surface of oil filter base (2) .
Apply clean engine oil to O-ring seal (3) for the new oil filter.
Do not fill the oil filters with oil before installing them. This oil would not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated oil can cause accelerated wear to engine components.
Install the engine oil filter. Spin on the oil filter until the O-ring seal comes into contact with the oil filter base. Rotate the oil filter ? of a full turn.
Fill the engine with new engine lubricating oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.Engine Oil Filter - Replace (Element)
