1. Remove the bolts that hold support (2) to elbow (3).2. Loosen clamp (1). Remove the bolts that hold elbow (3) to the cylinder head and remove the elbow. 3. Remove the bolts and washers that hold the rocker shaft to the cylinder head. Remove rocker shaft (4).4. Remove the push rods from the cylinder head.Install Rocker Shaft And Push Rods
1. Install push rods (1).2. Put the rocker shaft in position on the cylinder head.3. Put 9M3710 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of the bolts for the rocker shaft. Install the washers and bolts.4. Tighten the bolts for the rocker shaft as follows: a) Tighten bolts 2, 3, 4, and 5 in number order to a torque of 115 lb.ft. (15.9 mkg).b) Tighten bolts 2, 3, 4, and 5 again in number order to a torque of 175 5 lb.ft. (24.2 0.7 mkg).c) Finally tighten bolts 2, 3, 4, and 5 again in number order (hand tighten only) to a torque of 175 5 lb.ft. (24.2 0.7 mkg).5. Make adjustments until the intake valve clearance is .015 in. (0.38 mm) and the exhaust valve clearance is .025 in. (0.64 mm). See ENGINE VALVE LASH as shown in OPERATION, LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE. Tighten the locknuts for the adjusting screws to a torque of 21 5 lb.ft. (2.9 0.7 mkg). 6. Install elbow (6). Pull the support for the fuel filter into position on the elbow and install the bolts that hold the support in place.end by: a) install valve coverb) install air cleaner housingDisassemble Rocker Shaft
start by: a) remove rocker shaft and push rods. 1. Remove the ring, washer (1), and spring from the end of the rocker shaft.2. Remove rocker arm (2), bracket (3), rocker arm (5), and spring (6) from the rocker shaft.3. Disassemble the remainder of the rocker shaft with the same above procedure.Assemble Rocker Shaft
1. Make sure the oil holes in the rocker shaft brackets are clean and free of all dirt or foreign material.2. Measure the bore of the bearings in each of the rocker arms. The bore must be .7263 .0005 in. (18.448 0.013 mm).3. Measure the diameter of the rocker shaft at each of the rocker arm locations. The diameter must be .7245 .0005 in. (81.402 0.013 mm). The maximum permissible clearance between the rocker arm bearings and the rocker shaft is .008 in. (0.20 mm). If a replacement of the rocker arm bearings is needed, make a replacement of the arm and bearings as a unit. The rocker arms and bearings can not be ordered separately. 4. Install the ring, washer (4), and spring on the end of the rocker shaft.5. Install rocker arm (6), bracket (3), rocker arm (5), washer (2) and spring (1).6. Assemble the remainder of the rocker shaft with the same procedure. Put clean engine oil on all of the parts after assembly.
If the adjusting screws and locknuts have been removed from the rocker arms, do not turn the adjusting screws too far into the rocker arms. Damage to the valve can be the result after the rocker shaft and push rods have been installed on the engine.
