Information:
Start By:a. remove hood Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Remove ten bolts (1), washers, and guard assembly (2). 2. Remove six bolts and washers (3) and remove grill assembly (4) from radiator guard assembly (5). 3. Disconnect wiring harness (6) from horn and remove bolt, washer and clip (7) from radiator and set aside. 4. Attach tooling (A) to radiator guard (3) and secure to a suitable lifting device.5. Remove bolts and washers (8). 6. Remove four bolts and washers (9).7. Remove radiator guard (3) from frame. Weight of radiator (2) is 55 kg (120 lb).
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot water or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns. Looks at the sight gauge to check the coolant level. The coolant level should be in the green range. If necessary, remove the fill cap only after the engine has been stopped and the cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand.Remove the cooling system fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system condition contains alkali that can cause personal injury. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and do not drink.Allow cooling system components to cool before draining.
8. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container. 9. Loosen clamp (10) and disconnect upper radiator hose (11). 10. Loosen clamp (12), and disconnect lower radiator hose (13).11. Disconnect two hydraulic cooler hose assemblies (14), (15), and drain the hydraulic oil into a suitable container. 12. Loosen nut (16) to release tension from belt (20). Remove bolt (17), and washer and nut holding adjusting block (18) to the air conditioning compressor (19). 13. Disconnect wire connector (22) and hose assembly (23) from either starting aid (21). 14. Remove bolt, nut and washer (24). Remove belt (20) from air conditioning compressor (19) and position the air conditioning compressor (19) out of the way. 15. Attach a suitable lifting device to Radiator group (25) as shown. 16. Remove two bolts (27) connecting the upper fan guard (26) and the lower fan guard (28). Remove eight bolts (29) and washers. Remove both guards (26), and (28). 17. Remove four bolts (30), and move shroud (31) away from the radiator group (25). 18. Remove two bolts (30) from the bottom of radiator (25).19. Remove radiator group (25) from the machine. Weight of the radiator is 95 kg (210 lb). 20. Attach tooling (A) to oil cooler (33). Remove eight bolts (34) and remove oil cooler (33). Install in reverse order. Refill fluid capacities of the radiator and hydraulic tank to their proper level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual.End By:a. install hood
