Table 1
Diagnostic Codes Table
Code and Description Conditions which Generate this Code System Response
268-2 Programmed Parameter Fault : Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect The engine's Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects that one or more of the programmable parameters have not been programmed. The ECM may use a default torque map or the ECM may limit the engine to low idle.
The code is active only.
1495-2 Injector Trim Codes Not Programmed The engine's ECM detects that one or more of the trim codes for the injectors have not been programmed. Some system configuration parameters are configurable by the customer to suit the customer's particular application. The configuration file contains all the adjustable settings for the monitoring system. The engine is shipped from the factory with default values for these parameters. In most cases, the parameters do not need to be changed. The system configuration parameters must be reprogrammed if an ECM is replaced and/or the engine rating is reprogrammed. System configuration parameters need not to be reprogrammed if the flash file is replaced. Proper values for these parameters are available on Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET). Certain configuration parameters are also stamped on the engine information plate. If the default settings for the parameters have been modified, there will be no record at the factory of the changes. These settings can be downloaded into a laptop computer and saved to a file. The customer can then use the file to ease the future replacement of the ECM.Note: Changing the parameters that are protected by factory passwords may cause your Caterpillar warranty to be voided. No password is required for programming a new ECM during the first 100 hours of service life. This 100 hour “free configuration” feature enables the customer to tailor the programmable setpoints to the requirements of the installation. Exceptions are "Fuel Limit" and "Personality Module Mismatch".Parameter Descriptions
"Personality Module Interlock"
The "Personality Module Interlock" is automatically programmed by the ECM after factory passwords are entered."Engine Serial Number"
Program the "Engine Serial Number" to match the engine serial number that is stamped on the engine information plate. The engine serial number is not preprogrammed on a replacement ECM."Equipment ID"
"Equipment ID" allows the customer to enter a description into the ECM to identify the installation. A maximum of 17 characters may be entered in the field. This parameter is only for reference by the customer. This parameter is not required."Full Load Setting (FLS)"
"FLS" is a number that represents the adjustment to the fuel system that was made at the factory in order to fine tune the fuel system. The correct value for this parameter is stamped on the engine information plate. Factory passwords are required in order to change this parameter."Full Torque Setting (FTS)"
"FTS" is similar to "FLS". Only change this value if the engine is rerated or if a new ECM is installed. Factory passwords are required. A new ECM or a blank ECM allows one time of programming of the "FTS" without the use of factory passwords. In order to change the "FTS" after the initial programming, factory passwords are required."Fuel Ratio Control (FRC)"
The "FRC" limit controls the ratio of fuel to air by limiting the rack as a function of boost pressure, engine speed, and altitude. The "FRC" function permits an offset to be applied to the calculation for the altitude. The offset changes the fuel to the air ratio to a richer mixture or a leaner mixture."Fuel Correction Factor"
"Fuel Correction Factor" is used to adjust the calculated amount of fuel consumed during operation versus the actual amount of fuel used. The default setting on Cat ET will be 0% fuel correction factor. If a fuel correction factor needs to be changed, it is 5% increments/decrements. Up to a maximum of 25% in Cat ET 2016B. If the calculated fuel usage is above the actual fuel used, a negative fuel correction factor needs to be applied. If the calculated fuel usage is below the actual fuel used, a positive fuel correction factor needs to be applied."Ether Injection"
Set the "Ether Injection" to "Enabled" to configure the ECM for the ether system."Cold Cylinder Cutout"
The "Cold Cylinder Cutout" automatically stops fuel injection to cylinders that are not firing. The fuel injection is stopped to the cylinders until the engine reaches operating temperature."Engine Prelube"
Set the "Engine Prelube" to "Enabled" in order to configure the ECM for the installation of the prelube system."Oil Renewal"
Set the "Oil Renewal" to "Enabled" in order to configure the ECM for the installation of the oil renewal solenoid."Shutter Control"
Set the "Shutter Control" to "Enabled" in order to configure the ECM for the shutter."Total Tattletale"
The parameter counts the number of changes to system parameters."Injector Trim Code"
Note: The "Injector Trim Code" is not part of the "Configuration" screen on Cat ET. "Injector Codes Calibration" can be found under "Calibrations" in the "Service" menu on Cat ET.The "Injector Trim Code" is a number that is found on each of the unit injectors. The ECM uses this number to compensate for manufacturing variations between individual injectors. If you replace any of the unit injectors, you must reprogram the "Injector Trim Code" for the new injectors. Also, if you replace the ECM, you must reprogram the trim code for all of the injectors.Parameter Table
