Information:

Stopping the engine immediately after the engine has been working under load can result in overheating of EGR components.Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Stopping" procedure to allow the engine to cool and to prevent excessive temperatures in the turbocharger housing.
Allow at least 2 minutes after shutting down the engine before you turn the battery disconnect switch to OFF.
Definitions
Observe the following definitions.Self-correct - Fault condition no longer exists. An active fault code will no longer be active.Notification - Action taken by the system to alert the operator of pending Inducement.Inducement - Engine derates, vehicle speed limits, or other actions intended to prompt the operator to repair or maintain the emission control system.First occurrence - When an escalating time inducement fault code becomes active for the first time.Repeat occurrence - When any escalating time inducement fault code becomes active again within 40 hours of the first occurrence. Engine must run for 40 hours without tripping any escalating time inducement fault before returning get back to first occurrence times.Safe Harbor Mode (Worldwide) - Safe Harbor Mode is a 30 minute engine run time period. During the Safe Harbor Mode the engine can be operated with full power after reaching a level 2 severe or level 3 inducement depending on inducement strategy selected. Once in level 3 inducement, the operator can perform a key cycle and the engine will enter Safe Harbor Mode. Safe Harbor Mode can only be implemented up to three times.Impeded EGR Valve - Something preventing the EGR valve from opening and closing normally.
Taking prompt action is essential to rectify any incorrect operation, use, or maintenance of the engine emissions system in accordance with the rectification measures indicated by the warnings listed on the following pages.
Inducement Strategy for Escalating Time Inducement Faults
The following warnings and inducements are triggered as a result of an impeded EGR valve.Inducement Symbols
Check Engine Lamp - This lamp activates for all engine and inducement-related faults that affect the engine.
Action Lamp - This lamp indicates that a Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 fault is active.
Emissions Malfunction Indicator Lamp - This lamp activates when the engine emissions system has failed.
Audible Alarm - The alarm may sound when a Level 3 fault is active.Level 1 Inducement
Illustration 1 g06375777Reduced PerformanceThe check engine lamp will be flashing and the action lamp will illuminate on the panel. In addition, the emissions malfunction indicator lamp will illuminate on the information display screen for any inducement-related fault and a level 1 inducement will occur for a duration of 36 hours. There is no repeat occurrence for level 1 faults.Reduced TimeThe check engine lamp will be flashing and the action lamp will illuminate on the panel. In addition, the emissions malfunction indicator lamp will illuminate on the information display screen for a level 1 inducement-related fault and a level 1 inducement will occur for a duration of 18 hours. There is no repeat occurrence for level 1 faults.Level 2 Inducement
Illustration 2 g06375777Reduced PerformanceIf a fault condition exists for the entire duration of inducement level 1, the strategy advances to inducement level 2. The check engine lamp will be flashing, the action lamp will illuminate on the panel and the emissions malfunction indicator lamp will illuminate on the information display screen with a yellow banner. The engine will have a 50% derate. A continuous audible alarm may also be associated with the level 2 inducement. A level 2 inducement occurs for a duration of 64 hours for first occurrence. For repeat occurrence, a level 2 inducement fault will occur for a duration of 5 hours. If the fault is not corrected before the inducement duration ends, the engine will become 100% derated. The engine will also be limited to 1000 rpm or low idle, whichever is greater. No further inducements will occur for "Reduced Performance" configuration. Safe Harbor Mode is allowed for three key cycles.Reduced TimeIf a fault condition exists for the entire duration of inducement level 1, the strategy advances to inducement level 2. The check engine lamp will be flashing, the action lamp will illuminate on the panel and the emissions malfunction indicator lamp will illuminate on the information display screen with a yellow banner. A continuous audible alarm may also be associated with the level 2 inducement. A level 2 inducement will occur for a duration of 18 hours for first occurrence. For repeat occurrence, level 2 inducement fault will occur for a duration of 108 minutes.Level 3 Inducement
