Information:
System configuration parameters are parameters that affect emissions and power of the engine. Default values for the parameters are programmed at the factory. Some parameters may be changed by the customer in order to suit the needs of the specific application. Values for these parameters can be viewed on the electronic service tool. Certain configuration parameters are also stamped on the engine information plate. No password is required for programming a new ECM during the first 100 hours of service life. This 100 hour “free configuration” feature enables the customer to tailor the programmable setpoints to the requirements of the installation. Exceptions are "Fuel Limit" and "Personality Module Mismatch".Note: If the parameters that are protected with the factory passwords are changed, the Caterpillar warranty may be voided.Parameter Descriptions
"Personality Module Interlock"
The "Personality Module Interlock" is automatically programmed by the ECM after factory passwords are entered."ECM Serial Number"
The "ECM Serial Number" is stored in the memory of the ECM. The "ECM Serial Number" can be accessed by the use of the service tool."Engine Serial Number"
Program the "Engine Serial Number" to match the engine serial number that is stamped on the engine information plate. The engine serial number is not preprogrammed on a replacement ECM."Equipment ID"
"Equipment ID" allows the customer to enter a description into the ECM in order to identify the engine. A maximum of 17 characters may be entered in the field. This parameter is only for reference by the customer. This parameter is not required."Full Load Setting (FLS)"
"FLS" is a number that represents the adjustment to the fuel system that was made at the factory in order to fine-tune the fuel system. The correct value for this parameter is stamped on the engine information plate. Factory passwords are required in order to change this parameter."Full Torque Setting (FTS)"
"FTS" is similar to "FLS". Only change this value if the engine is rerated or if a new ECM is installed. Factory passwords are required. A new ECM or a blank ECM allows one time of programming of the "FTS" without the use of factory passwords. In order to change the "FTS" after the initial programming, factory passwords are required."Fuel Ratio Control (FRC)"
The "Fuel Ratio Control" limit controls the amount of fuel to air ratio by limiting the rack as a function of boost pressure, engine speed, and altitude. The "Fuel Ratio Control" function permits an offset to be applied to the calculation for the altitude. The offset changes the fuel to the air ratio to a richer mixture or a leaner mixture."Rated Fuel Position"
This parameter is used to limit the engine power. A factory password is required to change this setting."Fuel Correction Factor"
"Fuel Correction Factor" is a programmable offset that is used to improve the accuracy of the calculated fuel usage."Low Idle Speed"
"Low Idle Speed" is the minimum allowable operating speed for the engine."Droop Slope"
"Droop" is the downward adjustment in engine speed at full load and at high idle."Governor Gain Factor"
"Governor Gain Factor" is a programmable parameter. This parameter is used in determining the engines rate of response to an engine load."Governor Minimum Stability Factor"
"Governor Minimum Stability Factor" functions in order to eliminate steady state speed error. The parameter is used by the ECM when the steady state speed error is less than 20 rpm."Governor Maximum Stability Factor"
"Governor Maximum Stability Factor" functions in order to eliminate steady state speed error. The parameter is used by the ECM when the steady state speed error is greater than 20 rpm."Engine Acceleration Delay on Startup"
"Engine Acceleration Delay on Start-up" is a time period that limits engine speed to low idle. This time period allows the engine oil pressure to build up to a minimum pressure."Engine Acceleration Rate"
"Engine Acceleration Rate" is the rate of acceleration and of deceleration."Programmable Torque Scaling"
"Programmable Torque Scaling" is a way to derate an engines maximum power output without exchanging torque maps."Engine Cooling System Configuration"
This parameter is used as a switch to toggle between the SCAC cooling system or the JWAC cooling system."Cold Cylinder Cutout"
The cold cylinder cutout automatically stops fuel injection to cylinders that are not firing. The fuel injection is stopped to the cylinders until the engine reaches operating temperature. "Cooldown Engine Speed"
This parameter defines engine speed when the engine is in the cooldown mode."Engine Cooldown Duration"
This parameter defines the duration of the cooldown mode. Programming this parameter to 0 will disable this function."Engine Prelube Duration"
This parameter sets the engine prelubrication timeout period. Programming this parameter to 0 will disable this function."Crank Duration"
This parameter determines the length of time that the starting motors will engage the flywheel before disengaging. Programming this parameter to 0 will prevent the ECM from engaging the starting motors."Maximum Number of Crank Cycles"
This parameter is the total number of crank cycles that can be performed."Crank Terminate Speed"
This parameter determines when the starting motor will disengage."Total Tattletale"
The parameter counts the number of changes to system parameters."Injector Codes"
The injector code is a number that is found on each of the unit injectors. The ECM uses this number to compensate for manufacturing variations between individual injectors. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Injector Code - Calibrate".
