Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin. Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
Start By:a. remove engine and torque converter Cap and plug all connections after disconnecting any hose or tube assembly, to avoid system contamination.1. Mark and identify all the hose assemblies for installation purposes. 2. Position engine (1) on stands as shown. The weight of engine (1) is 2722 kg (6000 lb). 3. Mark and identify wire harness (2) for installation purposes. Disconnect wire harness (2) at the two electrical connections.4. Remove the four tie straps that hold wire harness (2) to the shield assembly. Set wire harness (2) out of the way. 5. Disconnect hose assembly (3) from torque converter and housing (4). Cap and plug hose assembly (3) to avoid system contamination. 6. Disconnect hose assembly (5) from bulkhead union (6). 7. Disconnect hose assembly (9) from bulkhead union (6). Remove nine bolts (8) and the washers from shield assembly (7). 8. Remove two bolts (12) and the washers from support assembly (13). Loosen bolt (10), the nut, and the hard washer from bracket assembly (11). 9. Remove two bolts (14), the two nuts, and the washers, from plate (15). Set plate (15) aside. 10. Disconnect hose assembly (16) from differential lock pump (19). Disconnect hose assembly (17) from brake pump (18). 11. Disconnect hose assembly (20) from transmission pump (21). 12. Position Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to shield assembly (7) as shown. Secure the lifting device to a hoist. Remove four bolts (22), the washers, and support assembly (13) from turbocharger support (23). The weight of support assembly (13) is 154 Kg (340 lb). 13. Remove two bolts (25), the washers, and brake and differential lock pump (24) as a unit, from the flywheel housing. 14. Disconnect tube assembly (26) from transmission pump (21). 15. Remove two bolts (27), the washers, and transmission pump (21) from the flywheel housing. 16. Mark and identify two wire harnesses (28) and (29) for installation purposes. Remove the tie strap and disconnect two wire harnesses (28) and (29) at the electrical connections. 17. Remove two bolts (30), the washers, and modulating valve (31) from torque converter and housing (4). 18. Remove two bolts (33) and the washers from bracket (32). 19.
