Removing And Refitting The End Cover Plate
Removing
1. Remove generator strap or idler pulley plus strap, as applicable.2. Disconnect fuel piping between injectors and injection pump (Fig. 5-1). Disconnect fuel feed pipe from injection pump.
5-13. Remove injection pump. Important:Do not press starting fuel allowance button before pump removal.Fig. 5-2
5-24. Remove V-belt and detach pulley from drive shaft.5. Remove oil filter (Fig. 5-3) and end cover plate.
5-3Refitting
6. Inspect plate, apply DEUTZ DW 47 sealing compound or equivalent gasket silicone sealant, and position on crankcase. Note for Refitment:Check that dowel pins are firmly seated in plate.Fig. 5-4
5-47. Screw in bolts and tighten evenly.8. Place new gasket on injection pump seating and check that distance to cam base circle is: 82.6 0.1 mm9. Irrespective of the value given on the maker's nameplate on the pump, the above distance must also be achieved when shims are fitted.Fig. 5-5
5-510. Put governor lever clevis in proper position.Fig. 5-6
5-611. Make the pump's control rod flush with the pump housing.Fig. 5-7
5-712. Mount pump and preload nuts.13. SETTING THE INJECTION TIMINGplease see Section 2.14. Tighten nuts of cover plate (see Specification Data). Connect all fuel piping.15. Attach V-belt pulley to drive shaft. Note for Refitment:Check that drive shaft dowel sleeve engages in pulley. Where power take-off from this engine end is provided, fit a friction disc also.Fig. 5-8
5-816. Fit generator strap or idler pulley with strap, as applicable.17. Fit belt and tension. Thumb pressure mid-way should produce 10-15 mm belt deflection.Inspecting End Cover Plate And Overhauling Speed Control System Without Torque Control
Cover plate is removed.1. Inspect plate, especially joint face, and speed control system.2. Drive out dowel sleeve (Fig. 5-9) and pull off speed control lever from shaft.
5-93. Unscrew governor leaf spring from shaft.Fig. 5-10
5-104. Remove circlips from both lever ends. Withdraw governor housing and spring.Fig. 5-11 (explosion view)
5-115. Remove circlip from pivot pin of starting fuel allowance stop. Withdraw stop lever with torsion spring.Fig. 5-12
5-126. Remove O-seal from fuel allowance thrust pin (Fig. 5-13) and take out pin.
5-137. Replace pin and / or bush if worn.8. Check that the bush will project through 4.5 mm from injection pump seating.Fig. 5-14
5-149. Unscrew bush from full-load stop screw.10. Measure distance between stop screw thread piece to cover and record reading.Fig. 5-15
5-15 Important:Following replacement of full-load stop or any adjustments, be sure to reset engine power on the test bed.11. For replacing stop screw, remove locknut with washer, turn screw inwards and remove.Fig. 5-16 (exploded view)
5-1612. When fitting new screw, observe clearance recorded and secure screw by nut. Note for Refitment:Use copper washer for locknut.13. Screw bush in place. Compensate any clearance between bush and nut by washers.Fig. 5-17
5-1714. Fill grease into top groove of fuel allowance thrust pin. Install O-seal in bottom groove. Fit pin (Fig. 5-18) and install rubber grommet on pin bush.
5-18 Note for Refitment:The pin long end must point to pump seating.15. Slip torsion spring with long end at bottom over full-load stop screw.16. Position fuel allowance stop lever with release lug at bottom.17. Attach torsion spring to stop lever and lug in cover.18. Preload spring by turning lever and push down so that the release lug is situated under the thrust pin. Fit circlip.Fig. 5-19
5-1919. Introduce speed control shaft with flattened end ahead from lever side and fit stop washer.Fig. 5-20
5-2020. Push home speed control shaft and install in groove close to control lever.Fig. 5-21
5-2121. Fit lever on shaft and lock by pin.22. Gauge axial clearance of shaft between circlip and cover. Fit shims as required.23. Remove circlip and control lever.24. Push back shaft, position governor lever and push shaft farther.Fig. 5-22
5-2225. Fit yoke spring.Fig. 5-23
5-2326. Fit governor leaf spring. Push shaft farther and screw tight leaf spring.Fig. 5-24
5-24 Note for Refitment:Leaf springs vary in thickness according to rated speed. In addition to the different color marking, they also have a mark between the two securing holes, referring to the FL 511 model. The following springs are available:1. 1.0 mm up to 1500/min, red dot2. 1.15 mm, 1500 - 1800/min, white dot3. 1.40 mm, 1800 - 2500/min, yellow dot4. 1.60 mm, 2500 - 3000/min, no dotFL 511 mark27. Lock yoke spring (Fig. 5-25) and fix governor lever to fuel allowance stop.Fig. 5-26
5-25
5-2628. Fit circlips on speed control shaft both sides of governor lever.Fig. 5-27
5-2729. Slip rubber seals over shaft and push into shaft bearing bore in cover.Fig. 5-28
5-2830. Fit control lever and secure by dowel sleeve.Fig. 5-29
