TIGHTEN TERMINAL SHAFT SCREWS IN WOODWARD EG-10P ACTUATORS, 3508, 3512, 3516 Engines, 1250, 1264, PI3026 U-86 A-79 AU-73 B-36 C-80 E-71 O-68 PRIORITY Problem The listed engines use an EG-10P Woodward Actuator to control engine speed. Some of these actuators have loose terminal shaft screws in the shaft loading lever and/or in the shaft collar. See Illustration. Loose screws can permit the shaft to vibrate partly out of the housing and cause the control linkage to bind. This would result in loss of engine control. All the screws are tight on later engines. Affected Models Model Serial Numbers 3508 Generator 23Z476-23Z539, 544-546, 550, 563, 566-570, 572, 573, 583, 586, 587 3508 Generator 70Z550-70Z558 3512 Generator 24Z454, 455, 485, 549, 572, 573, 603, 607, 614, 617, 618, 632, 674-676, 680-682, 695, 701-826, 829, 830, 832, 834-836, 840-857, 859, 860, 862-865, 868, 869, 872, 877, 884 3512 Generator 67Z493-67Z497 3512 Industrial 49Y356, 357, 361-366, 369-376, 391-393, 395, 396, 398-403, 415, 417 3512 Vehicular 51Y474 3516 Generator 25Z423-25Z435, 439 3516 Generator 73Z133 Action Requested (Parts Stock Action Needed Also) Inspect all 2W7000 and 4W2213 Actuator Assemblies in parts stocks, and on all the listed engines. Also, any 4W2213 Actuators already installed on the engines listed in the August 10, 1983 Service Letter, PI7009, must be inspected. Any industrial engine ordered with the Woodward Electric Governor as an attachment must also have the EG-10P Actuator checked. Any parts service 4W2213 Actuators shipped after August 17, 1983 are satisfactory, and are identified by the letter "S" in the lower right corner of the actuator nameplate. This also applies to actuators installed on engines at the factory. Effective actuator serial number is 1979154. Do not be confused by an "S" or "US" after the part number "2W7000" on these actuators. Neither code has anything to do with these loose screws. This also applies to actuator nameplate where the "2W7000" has been marked out and "4W2213" has been stamped in the lower right corner. If an "S" is not in the lower right corner of the nameplate, do the following: 1. Clean actuator around the cover and remove cover. The inside of the groove on the terminal shaft should be flush with the housing seal. See Illustration. The gasket will stick on the cover and you should be able to reuse it. 2. Measure clearance between the housing and terminal shaft collar. See Illustration. The clearance should be 0.13-0.25 mm (0.005"-0.010"). (SEE ILLUSTRATION) 3. Tighten the hollow head screw in the collar to 4 N.m (34 lb in). 4. Tighten the hollow head screw in the loading lever to 6 N.m (56 lb in). 5. Reinstall cover with gasket and tighten screws to 3 N.m (28 lb in). Warranty Allowances Submit a claim for 0.5 hours labor at your selling rate. Complete each claim in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on PIP's. Parts Disposition None affected. Termination Date November 30, 1984. HOWEVER, MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO COMPLETE THIS PROGRAM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
