Problem
Certain remanufactured crankshafts and short blocks for 1160 and 3208 Engines and certain remanufactured 1160 and 3208 Engines need to be removed from parts stock.
Action Required
Remanufactured Crankshafts 1. Inspect all 0R1211 Remanufactured Crankshafts in parts stock with date codes prior to May 1, 1992. 2. Remove those with "MHT" stamped by the part number on a counterweight. Remanufactured Short Blocks 1. Inspect all 0R0653, 0R0778, 0R0936, 0R1153, 0R1157, 0R2076, 0R3038, and 0R3686 Remanufactured Short Blocks in parts stock. 2. If "STD" is marked on the container box, or the date code on the container box is later than May 1, 1992, do not remove it from parts stock. 3. If neither of the conditions noted in Step 2 exist, open the container to check the crankshaft size on the crankshaft-and-bore-size plate on the right side of the block. 4. If the crankshaft size indicated is standard or .020" undersize, mark the outside of the container "STD" or ".020 US", and return it to parts stock. 5. If the crankshaft size indicated is .050" undersized, perform the following test: A. Obtain cupric sulfate from a local pharmaceutical supply house. If unable to obtain locally, contact Spectrum Chemicals (1-800-772- 8786). Spectrum Chemicals will refer you to a distributor in your area. Order C-1425 in the 1 lb. container ($25.00 is the minimum order). (Mention that this is a one time order.) Mix 1 gram of the cupric sulfate with 10 milliliters of distilled water to yield a 10% (in water) solution. B. Use a dropper to apply one or two drops to a clean machined surface on the exposed rear flange of the crankshaft. If the solution turns reddish brown or copper color in less than 10 seconds the crankshaft is acceptable and the shortblock should be returned to parts stock. Stamp "D" on the crank and bore size plate and also mark outside of container ".050 US D" C. If solution does not turn color within 10 seconds, remove the short block from parts stock. Remanufactured 1160 and 3208 Engines 1. Inspect all remanufactured engines in parts stock with identification numbers within the ranges listed below: 5CD1-6882 57V1-34406 9WC1-836 62W1-70620
