If corrective measures are not taken within a reasonable time, engine damage could result.
When an alarm occurs, corrective measures should be taken before the situation becomes an emergency. Each alarm is programmed to a less critical setpoint than an engine shutdown.An engine shutdown device (if equipped) will stop the engine once the shutdown setpoint is exceeded.Horn Test
The horn should be tested periodically to ensure it is functioning properly. To test the horn, press the right button on any module for greater than 3 seconds. After 3 seconds, and as long as the button is held, the horn will sound. The display will not flash unless an alarm has actually occurred.Horn Tone Adjustment
The horn is equipped with a three position toggle switch. The top position is HIGH (loudest), the middle position is LOW (quietest), while the lower position MED produces a tone mid-range between the two.Alarm Display
Alarmed functions override the normal display. When an electronic gauge module detects an alarm the "carrot" (black triangular pointer) will move above the symbol of the alarmed function and that function's value will be flashing on the display. Example:If module 2 is displaying the engine oil temperature, the "carrot" above the symbol that represents engine oil temperature will illuminate. * If module 2 detects an alarm for outlet jacket water temperature, the horn will sound and the "carrot" will move above the symbol for outlet jacket water temperature. The display will switch to indicate the value of the outlet jacket water temperature and the indicated value will be flashing 4 times per second.A - # Alarms
These alarms are for the switched inputs. The alarm codes and their associated functions are shown in the following chart. When an A-# alarm is displayed, no "carrot" (black triangular pointer) will be on the display. The A-# alarm will alternate with the normal display every five seconds. When the A-# alarm is on the display it will be flashing. Example:If module 3 is displaying the engine oil pressure, "the carrot" will be above the symbol for engine oil pressure. * If the exhaust stack temperature rises above the alarm setpoint, Module 3 will detect this by a switch closure in the pyrometer. The horn will sound and the display will show "A-3" for the high exhaust temperature alarm shown. The "A-3" will be flashing 4 times per second.The display will alternate every 5 seconds between displaying the engine oil pressure and "A-3" high exhaust temperature alarm.The operator may select any function, but each function will alternate with the "A-3" alarm display.Alarms and Alarm Horns-Acknowledging and Silencing
The operator must wear hearing protection. The alarm horn has been selected to be heard above engine room sound levels. Hearing damage may result without proper hearing protection.
The operator must acknowledge an alarmed function and silence the alarm horn by pressing the button below the "carrot" (black triangular pointer) on the gauge module with the flashing display.If a module is displaying an "A-#" alarm, the operator may acknowledge the alarm and silence the horn by pressing any of the three buttons on that module.Once acknowledged, the horn will never resound for the same function until that function returns to its normal operating range and then exceeds the normal range.Alarm Reset
* The operator must first acknowledge an alarm before it will reset.* All alarmed functions are stored in memory until they are individually acknowledged.Alarms will reset when the alarmed function returns to its normal operating range after being acknowledged. Once an alarm resets, the display of that function's value will stop flashing and the alarm horn for that function will reset.Alarm Priorities
More than one alarm may occur in a module before the operator arrives to acknowledge the first alarm. All of the "carrots" (black triangular pointers) above the symbols representing the alarmed functions will be flashing except one.The "carrot" above the symbol of the alarmed function with highest priority will not be flashing and that function's value will be indicated on the display.The predetermined priority for the display of alarmed functions is shown in Chart 2 in the Reference Charts section.To acknowledge the alarm, press the button below the "carrot" that is not flashing. The horn will be silenced for 5 seconds to let the operator know that the alarm was acknowledged. The horn will then sound again for the next highest priority alarm.The "carrot" above the symbol representing that function will stop flashing and that function's value will now be indicated on the display. The "carrots" above all other alarms, including ones that have been acknowledged, will be flashing.The operator must acknowledge each alarm individually. Once all alarms have been acknowledged, the horn will be silenced and the operator may then select a non-alarmed function and display its value by pushing the button with the symbol for that function.Alarmed Functions
Refer to Chart 2 in the Reference Charts section of this manual for alarm priorities, qualifiers and setpoints.The following functions have alarms: High Fuel Filter Differential Pressure (Delta P) AlarmThe alarm sensors are located on the fuel filter (non-service side) end cover at the fuel inlet and fuel outlet ports. High Inlet Manifold Air Temperature AlarmThis temperature alarm is used for high ambient temperature applications. The sensor is located on the left side, top front corner of cylinder block. Low Fuel Pressure AlarmThe sensor is mounted in the fuel manifold non-service side. Engine Outlet Jacket Water TemperatureThe alarm sensor is located in the water outlet manifold. Engine Aftercooler Inlet Water Temperature AlarmThe sensor for this alarm is located in the aftercooler inlet water line. High Inlet Air Restriction AlarmThis alarm sensor is located on the left side of the engine on a mounting plate with the terminal box. High Engine Oil Temperature AlarmThe oil temperature sensor is located on the oil filter inlet elbow.
All liquid temperature sensing elements must be submerged in the coolant or oil to operate properly and accurately. The alarm cannot actuate if the coolant or oil level is low.
Low Oil Level AlarmThis switch is mounted in the engine oil
