Start By:
Remove the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Remove and Install". The information is in this manual.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the engine oil in a suitable container for disposal. The capacity of the engine crankcase is 30 L (7.9 US gal). Remove the oil filter.
Drain the fluid from the coolant system in a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the cooling system is 38 L (10 US gal) .

Remove 14 bolts (1) from oil filter base (2) . Remove oil filter base (2) from the engine.

Remove gasket (8) from oil filter base (2) . Remove O-ring seal (7) from the hydraulic fitting.
Remove O-ring plug (3) , O-ring seal (4) , valve spring (5) , and bypass valve (6) from oil filter base (2) .

Remove O-ring plug (9) , O-ring seal (10) , valve spring (11) , and bypass valve (12) from oil filter base (2) .Installation Procedure
Note: Check the condition of the O-ring seals that were removed from the oil filter base. If the O-ring seals are worn or damaged, replace the O-ring seals with new parts.

Clean all of the components before installation in oil filter base (2) .
Install O-ring seal (10) on O-ring plug (9) .
Apply clean engine oil on the components of the oil cooler bypass valve. Install O-ring plug (9) , O-ring seal (10) , valve spring (11) , and bypass valve (12) in oil filter base (2) .

Install O-ring seal (4) on O-ring plug (3) .

Apply clean engine oil on the components of the oil cooler bypass valve. Install O-ring plug (3) , O-ring seal (4) , valve spring (5) , and bypass valve (6) in oil filter base (2) .
Install O-ring seal (7) in the hydraulic fitting.
Check the condition of gasket (8) . If gasket (8) is worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Install gasket (8) to oil filter base (2) .

Install oil filter base (2) and the gasket to the engine. Install 14 bolts (1) in oil filter base (2) .
Install a new filter to oil filter base (2) . Fill the engine crankcase with new engine oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6447 for information on changing the oil and the oil filter.
Fill the radiator with the proper coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6447 for information on filling the cooling system.End By: Install the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Remove and Install". The information is in this manual.
