520 Control Module (Generator Set) (1) Indicator for engine overspeed (2) Indicator for coolant temperature (3) Indicator for oil pressure (4) Indicator for alarm (5) Automatic start position (6) Programmable indicators (7) Manual start position (8) Engine control switch (ECS) (9) Indicator for engine overcrank (10) Indicator for emergency stop (11) Stop/Reset positionAn indicator will light when a fault condition is present. One of the programmable outputs will activate if one of the programmable outputs is selected as a common alarm output. The first fault is shown by a flashing indicator, and all subsequent faults are shown by a steady indicator. Warnings are also shown by a steady indicator. The indications are fed directly from the appropriate input and the indications are shown by a steady indicator. A steady indicator remains illuminated while the input is active. This feature can be used to allow the module to operate as an annunciator.Note: A programmable output can be configured in order to be a shutdown, a warning, or a common alarm for shutdown and warnings. The configuration is in addition to the other control sources that may drive the programmable output.Note: The indicator for alarm (4) on the front panel illuminates in order to indicate all shutdown and warning faults. The indicator for alarm (4) is used mainly to indicate the following fault conditions: charge fail, fail to stop, underspeed, sensor failure and oil pressure switch. A separate indicator does not illuminate for each different fault condition. A warning indication is shown by a steady indicator. Shut down indications are shown by a flashing indicator.Note: If the indicators are flashing simultaneously, the configuration of the module is not correct. The module must be configured again.Warnings
Warnings reset automatically. Once the fault has been removed, the input is reset.Charge Fail - The alternator voltage falls below the trip voltage (8.0 V) after the safety on timer has expired. The indicator for alarm (4) is illuminated.Programmable Inputs - If a programmable input has been configured as a warning, the appropriate programmable indicators (6) will illuminate.Oil Pressure Switch - The control module will only allow the engine to crank if the oil pressure is initially low and the engine is at rest. The warning could also indicate that the oil pressure switch is faulty. The indicator for alarm (4) will illuminate.Shutdowns
Shutdowns stop the generator. The engine control switch (8) must be turned to Stop/Reset (11) and the fault must be removed in order to reset the module. The engine cannot be restarted if a shutdown is present.Emergency Stop - Removal of the positive DC power supply from the emergency stop input initiates the following sequence. First, a controlled shutdown of the engine is initiated and any attempt to restart the engine is prevented. The engine will not restart until the emergency stop push button has been reset. Then, the positive DC power supply is not connected to the fuel solenoid or the starter solenoid. The emergency stop input is always active when the AUTOposition (5) or the MANUAL position (7) is selected.Note: If the emergency stop signal is not present, the unit will shut down.Oil Pressure - The oil pressure input is activated after the safety on timer has expired. The safety on timer expires after 10 seconds. A shutdown is initiated. The oil pressure is low. The indicator for oil pressure (3) will flash.Coolant Temperature - The coolant temperature input is activated after the safety on timer has expired. A shutdown is initiated. The engine is at a high temperature. The indicator for coolant temperature (2) will flash.Engine Overspeed - If the engine speed exceeds the trip (1750 RPM) a shutdown is initiated. The indicator for engine overspeed (1) will flash. Overspeed is not delayed. An immediate shutdown occurs.Fail to Start - If the engine fails to start after 3 attempts to crank, the start sequence is terminated. The indicator for engine overcrank (9) will flash.Fail to Stop - If the engine fails to stop after 30 seconds, the indicator for alarm (4) will flash. Two conditions must be met in order to signal that the engine has stopped. First, the oil pressure has become low. Also, speed is not detected from either the engine speed sensor or the alternator frequency sensing sources.Underspeed - The engine speed falls below the trip (1250 RPM) after the safety on timer has expired. A shutdown is initiated. The indicator for alarm (4) will flash.Sensor Failure - The speed sensing signal is lost during cranking. The generator will shut down. The indicator for alarm (4) will flash.Note: The alarm will only occur if the speed sensing signal is lost during cranking or during the safety on timer. If the signal is lost during normal operation, the engine will shut down. The engine will shut down with an underspeed alarm.Programmable Inputs - If a programmable input has been configured as a shutdown the appropriate programmable indicators (6) will illuminate.Note: The programmable indicators (6) can be configured in order to indicate any of the 32 different control sources. The control sources are in addition to the shutdowns and warnings that are detailed above. Refer to the "P808 For Windows" software manual for details on the configuration of the programmable indicators.
