Information:
2. Remove the bolts and remove tube assembly (1) from the engine. 3. Remove the bolts to remove pipe (2) and elbow (3) from the engine. 4. Disconnect oil supply tube assembly (4) and water supply tube assembly (5) from the turbocharger and remove these from the engine. 5. Disconnect water return tube assembly (6) and oil return tube assembly (7) from the turbocharger. 6. Remove the bolts and remove shield assemblies (8) and (9) as a unit from over the turbocharger. 7. Remove the bolts and nuts that hold turbocharger (11) to the exhaust manifold. Pull turbocharger (11) from coupling (10) and remove it from the engine. The weight of the turbocharger is 25 kg (55 lb).8. Do Steps 1 through 7 to remove the other turbocharger.Install Turbochargers
1. Put the gasket and turbocharger (1) in position on coupling (2) and the exhaust manifold. Put 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the bolt threads and install the bolts and nuts to hold the turbocharger. Tighten the bolts and nuts to a torque of 55 7 N m (40 5 lb ft). 2. Put shield assemblies (3) and (4) as a unit in position over the turbocharger and install the bolts. 3. Connect the gasket and water return tube assembly (5) to the turbocharger. Connect the gasket and oil return tube assembly (6) to the turbocharger. 4. Install oil supply tube assembly (7) and water supply tube assembly (8) on the engine. Connect the gaskets and tube assemblies (7) and (8) to the turbocharger. 5. Install pipe (9) and elbow (10) on the engine and install the bolts to hold these in position. 6. Install tube assembly (11) and the bolts to hold it on the engine.7. Install the panel assemblies and close the access door on the side of the engine compartment.8. Do Steps 1 through 7 to install the other turbocharger.Disassemble Turbochargers
START BY:a) remove turbocharger 1. Put the turbocharger in position on tool group (A) as shown. Put marks on the three housings of the turbocharger for correct installation and alignment at assembly.2. Loosen clamp (2) and remove compressor housing (1) and the clamp from the cartridge assembly. 3. Remove heat shield (6) from the cartridge housing. Loosen clamp (3) and remove cartridge assembly (5) from turbine housing (4).
To prevent a bent shaft, do not put a side force on the turbine shaft when the compressor wheel nut is loosened.
4. Put the end of the turbine shaft in tooling (B). Use a universal joint and socket of the correct size to remove the nut that holds compressor wheel (7) on the turbine shaft. 5. Use a press and push the turbine shaft out of compressor wheel (7) and the cartridge housing. Remove compressor wheel (7) from the cartridge housing. 6. Remove shroud (9) from turbine shaft (8). 7. Remove seal ring (10) from turbine shaft (8). 8. Bend the tabs of the locks from bolts (11) and remove the bolts.9. Remove backplate assembly (12) from the cartridge housing. Make a note of the position of the oil holes in the backplate assembly and cartridge housing for correct alignment at assembly. 10. Push spacer (13) out of its bore in backplate (12). 11. Remove seal rings (14) from spacer (13). 12. Remove thrust collar (15) from the cartridge housing. 13. Remove thrust bearing (16) from the cartridge housing. If the bearings are to be used again, put identification on them as to their location for correct assembly. 14. Remove bearing (17) and the washer from the cartridge housing. 15. Remove seal ring (18) from the cartridge housing.16. Use tool (C) to remove snap rings (19) and (21) from the cartridge housing. 17. Remove bearing (20) and the washer from the cartridge housing.18. Use tool (C) and remove the snap ring from the bore on the turbine end of the cartridge housing.Assemble Turbocharger
1. Make sure all of the oil passages in the turbocharger cartridge housing, backplate assembly and bearings are clean and free of dirt and foreign material.2. Put clean engine oil on all parts of the cartridge at assembly. Make sure the round edge on the outside diameter of the snap ring is toward the bearing when the snap rings are installed.3. Use tool (A) and install snap ring (1) in the turbine end of the cartridge housing. 4. Install washer (2) and bearing (3). Use tool (A) to install snap ring (4) to hold the washer and bearing in position. 5. Use tool (A) and install snap ring (7) in the cartridge housing.6. Install washer (6) and bearing (5) in the cartridge housing until washer (6) makes contact with snap ring (7). 7. Install thrust bearing (8) over the dowels in the cartridge housing. Make sure the grooves in bearing (8) are toward the outside as shown. 8. Install seal ring (10) in the groove of the cartridge housing.9. Put thrust collar (9) in position on the thrust bearing with the counterbore for the spacer up. 10. Install seal rings (11) on spacer (12) so the gaps in the rings are 180° apart. 11. Install spacer (12) in backplate assembly (13). 12. Make sure the oil passage in the cartridge housing and the oil passage in the backplate assembly are in alignment. Put backplate assembly (13) in position on the cartridge housing. Make sure the spacer fits correctly in the counterbore of the thrust collar.13. Install the locks and bolts to hold backplate assembly (13) to the cartridge housing. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 10 1 N m (7 1 lb ft) and bend the tabs of the locks on the bolts. 14. Put the turbine shaft in position in tooling (B). Put 6V2055 High Vacuum Grease in the groove for seal ring (14). Make sure the grease fills the groove approximately one half or more of the groove depth for the complete circumference of the groove to help make a carbon dam under the seal ring. Install seal ring (14) on turbine
