Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Check for Codes
A. Connect Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector.
B. Look for active codes that are associated with the system for the event code.
Codes
Result: An associated code is active.
Repair: Troubleshoot any associated codes before continuing with this test.
Result: A code is active or logged.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
2. Check the Torque on the Fuel Line from the Gas Admission Valve (GAV) Manifold to the Adapter on the Air Inlet Elbow
Torque
Result: The line was torqued to 110 17 N m (81 13 lb ft).
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: The line was not torqued to 110 17 N m (81 13 lb ft).
Repair: Torque the line to 110 17 N m (81 13 lb ft).
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 3.
3. Inspect the Gas System
A. Check the fuel line O-rings for leaks.
B. Check all fittings and seals for leaks with a methane detector or soapy water.
C. Check gas admission valve O-rings for leaks.
Gas System
Result: The gas system is OK.
Proceed to Test Step 4.
Result: A leak was found.
Repair: Perform the following procedure:
1. Shutoff the natural gas.
2. Repair or replace the damaged gas system components.
3. Check the repair with a methane detector or soapy water.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 4.
4. Change the Adapter in the Air Inlet Elbow
Adapter
Result: A code is not active or logged.
Return to service.
If the procedure did not correct the issue, contact your Cat dealer Technical Communicator (TC). For further assistance, your TC can confer with the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN).
