Information:

This air cleaner is an integral type made of plastic. It uses a paper filter element.(b) Cyclone Type Air Cleaner The cyclone type air cleaner uses a filter paper type element.Because of plastic coating and heat treatment, the element is highly resistant to water and oil.The intake air is given a spin by the vanes for centrifugal separation of large particles of dust and dirt. Small particles of dust and dirt are filtered out by the filter paper element so that a clean air is drawn into the engine. The standard air cleaner is a single element type, and the double element type can be effective for operation safety under unusual conditions with a lot of dust and dirt. (2) Precleaner The precleaner collects relatively large particles of dust contained in the air drawn in by engine. The air entering the precleaner is made to spin by the guide vanes of the precleaner to centrifugally separate large particles of dust. These dusts are collected in the precleaner. (3) Dust indicator The dust indicator is mounted near the outlet of the air cleaner. The dust indicator operates on the negative pressure of the air drawn into the engine performing the function of indicating the time to clean or replace the element. When the element is plugged with dust and dirt, the suction resistance increases. When this vacuum reaches the specified value, the signal (red) is pulled down against the spring tension. The signal (red) is then visible through the transparent section in the body, indicating that it is time to clean or replace the element. After the element has been cleaned or replaced, depress the reset button on the top, and the signal will return to its original position.* Electrical dust indicator With the electric dust indicator, its electric contact points close when the vacuum reaches the specified value. This turns on the warning lamp, warning the driver that it is time to clean or replace the element. (4) Turbocharger The turbocharger utilizes the energy of the engine exhaust gas to feed more air into the engine, thereby offering advantages such as boosted engine power output, thrifter fuel consumption, and reduced engine noise. The exhaust gases discharged from the cylinder of the engine are led through the exhaust manifold into the turbocharger and are accelerated in the turbine housing and are blown against the turbine wheel. Accordingly, the turbine is made to rotate at a speed of scores of thousands of revolutions per minute, and turns the compressor wheel mounted on the same shaft as the turbine wheel. By rotation of the compressor wheel, a larger amount of air than without supercharging is forced into the cylinder of the engine, so a correspondingly larger amount of fuel can be burnt. This increases the effective pressure during combustion (the pressure forcing the piston down) and thus increases the output. The turbocharger can be structurally divided into two sections. The turbine wheel section is driven by exhaust gas and the compressor wheel section feeds intake air under pressure. The exhaust gas from the engine is accelerated in the turbine housing and directed to the turbine wheel. As a result, the turbine wheel rotates at a speed of tens of thousands of revolutions per minute, driving the compressor wheel.(a) Waste Gate Mechanism <TD05 Turbocharger> The waste gate allows a part of the exhaust gas to bypass the turbocharger turbine wheel when the engine speed is high. This keeps the boost pressure at an optimum level and prevents both overrun of the turbocharger and excessive pressure buildup in the exhaust manifold. The boost pressure is advanced from the compressor cover to chamber A of the actuator through a rubber hose. When the boost pressure in chamber A exceeds the set level, it overcomes the spring force and opens the waste gate valve. As a result, less exhaust gas is now directed to the turbine wheel so that the turbine wheel and compressor wheel speed decreases and the boost pressure drops.(b) Overboost Valve <TD05 Turbocharger> The overboost valve operates at an abnormal rise of the boost pressure, specifically, when the waste gate mechanism fails to function correctly. When the boost pressure in the air inlet pipe exceeds the set level, the valve is forced open by the boost pressure, thereby allowing the boost pressure to escape to the atmosphere. This prevents excessive boost pressure being sent to the engine. While the overboost valve is operating, it develops a whistling sound. If such sound is heard, the turbocharger must be immediately checked and repaired.(c) Lubrication of Turbocharger[See Group 12 Lubrication.]2. Specifications

Disassembly and Reassembly
(1) Cartridge Type Air Cleaner Loosen the clamp on the connection at the cleaner end and remove the cleaner. To install, clean the connection of the mounting pipe from the engine. Insert the air cleaner and secure.(2) Cyclone Type Air Cleaner<Single Element Type> <Double Element Type> Inspection and Cleaning
(1) Cartridge Type Air Cleaner Blow clean compressed air from inside the element along the frills. 1. Use care not to allow dust into the element.2. Neither strike the element nor strike it against a hard object to loosen the dust.(2) Cyclone Type Air Cleaner(a) When there is dry dust on the element If there is dry dust on the element, clean the dust by blowing 685 kPa (7 kgf/cm2) or lower compressed air against the element.Blow the compressed air from inside the element up and down along the frills of the filter paper and clean the whole element evenly. 1. Do not strike the element or strike it against a hard object to loosen the dust.2. Do not clean, but replace, the inner element.(b) When there is moist dust on the elementIf the element is contaminated with moist soot, replace it regardless of the specified replacement frequency.(c) Inspection of element After the element has been cleaned, put an electric lamp inside the element to check for damage and pin holes. If there are thin portions in the filter paper, replace
