(7) "Secondary ECM in control" indicator
(8) "BLACKSTART" push button
(9) Engine control switch The electronic instrument panel is the center for engine control and for information about engine operation. Each component of the instrument panel is described below.Main display module (1) - This module is the main component of the system. The module receives information from the switches, sensors and other electronic controls on the engine via the CAT Data Link. The module processes the information. The information is output to the gauge cluster.Gauge cluster module (2) - The gauge needles are controlled by information that is processed by the main display module."BLACKSTART SYSTEM ENUNCIATOR" (3) - The enunciator monitors the condition of the power that is supplied to the electrical system."SCROLL" switch (4) - The main display module is capable of seven different modes of operation. The "SCROLL" switch is used to display the various parameters that are within each mode.Emergency Stop button (5) - This button is used to stop the engine quickly in an emergency situation. When this button is pressed, the fuel injection is disabled and the air shutoffs are activated."Secondary ECM ready" indicator (6) - This green indicator illuminates in order to indicate that the secondary ECM is ready for use."Secondary ECM in control" indicator (7) - This yellow indicator illuminates in order to indicate that the primary ECM is no longer in control of engine operation. The secondary ECM is in control."BLACKSTART" push button (8) - This green push button will illuminate when the engine control switch is in the "BLACKSTART ENABLE" position. When the illuminated push button is pressed, the engine will start.

Engine control switch in the "OFF/RESET" position
Engine control switch (9) - This switch is used to control the engine operation. The switch has these four positions: "DGCP START ENABLE", "BLACKSTART ENABLE", "STOP" and "OFF/RESET"."DGCP START ENABLE" (3 o'clock) - This position enables the engine operation to be controlled from a remote location. When the switch is in this position, the engine can be started, monitored, and stopped from the diesel generator control panel (DGCP)."BLACKSTART ENABLE" (6 o'clock) - When the switch is turned to this position, the green "BLACKSTART" push button will illuminate. When the illuminated push button is pressed, the engine will start. The engine can be stopped from a remote location when the switch is in this position. However, the engine cannot be started from a remote location with the switch in this position."STOP" (9 o'clock) - This position is used for manual engine stopping. When the engine control switch is turned to this position, the engine will stop immediately. The power to the control panel is maintained when the switch is in this position."OFF/RESET" (12 o'clock) - When the switch is turned to this position, power is removed from the control panel. This position will also reset the system if any events have occurred. If the engine is operating, the engine is immediately shut off. This position is not recommended for normal engine shutoff.Gauge Cluster Module
The electronic instrument panel is equipped with a main display module and a gauge cluster module. The gauge needles are controlled by information that is processed by the main display module. During normal operation, most of the gauge needles are at the 12 o'clock position. Use the data from the engine commissioning as a baseline for comparison of gauge readings.
Illustration 3 g00572455
The gauge cluster module displays the following parameters:
(1) Engine oil pressure
(2) Coolant temperature
(3) System voltage
(4) Fuel pressure For more information on the gauges, see this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Gauges and Indicators" topic (Operation Section).Main Display Module
The main display module is the main component of the instrument panel. The display on this module includes LED indicators and a liquid crystal display. During normal operation, the main display module performs the following functions:
A self test is performed when the main display module is powered up. This indicates that the monitoring system is operating properly.
The main display module continuously monitors the engine systems. Information for the positioning of the gauge needles is supplied by input from sensors.
If an abnormal operating condition occurs, the corresponding indicator flashes.Indicators
The indicators illuminate in response to information that is received from the ECM via the CAT Data Link.Note: The indicators will illuminate if a setpoint that is programmed into the monitoring system for a parameter is reached. For information on the setpoints, see this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Monitoring System" topic (Operation Section).

Indicators for the main control module
(1) Diagnostic check
(2) Low system voltage
(3) Engine overspeed
(4) Low engine oil pressure
(5) High crankcase pressure
Diagnostic check (1) - This RED indicator illuminates when any of the following conditions occur:
An engine shutdown is initiated by the ECM.
A diagnostic code is active.
An event code is active.Note: The diagnostic codes and the event codes can be obtained with a Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) service tool. For a list of the diagnostic codes and the event codes, see the Service Manual, RENR5035, "Troubleshooting" module. For instructions for the Cat ET, see the Service Manual, RENR5035, "Troubleshooting" module.
Low system voltage (2) - This RED indicator illuminates if the system voltage that is supplied to the ECM is below the setpoint that is programmed.
Engine overspeed (3) - This RED indicator illuminates when the ECM has detected an engine overspeed condition.
