A three cylinder engine is shown. (1) BackplateNote: Apply 4C-9612 Silicone Sealant around the bolt holes and the face of the cylinder block. (2) Bolts for the backplate Tighten the bolts for the backplate to the following torque. ... 50 N m (37 lb ft) (3) Crankshaft rear sealNote: Place engine oil on the bore of the crankshaft rear seal before installation in order to prevent damage to the seal.
Illustration 2 g00692392
Note: Ensure that oil hole (8) in front crankshaft bearing (4) is aligned with oil hole (6) in the cylinder block.Chamfer (7) of the bearing faces the front of the engine. A press should be used to press the bearing into the cylinder block from the front of the engine. The front face of bearing (4) should be evenly aligned with the front face of cylinder block (10) . (A) The center of the oil hole in the bearing should be the following distance from the front face of the bearing: 3003 engine ... 13.5 0.2 mm (0.53 0.01 inch)Replace the bearing if the distance is not within the given tolerances. (B) The center of the oil hole in the bearing should be the following distance from the rear face of the bearing: 3003 engine ... 9.0 0.2 mm (0.35 0.01 inch)Replace the bearing if the distance is not within the given tolerances.Refer to Specifications, "Crankshaft" for additional information about the main bearings and bearing caps.Place engine oil on the bore of the front oil seal before installation in order to prevent damage to the oil seal.
