Introduction
This Special Instruction provides a parts list and an installation procedure for a new crankcase breather system. The breather is for the C27 engines that are used on 990H Large Wheel Loaders and 844H Large Wheel Dozers. The new system will reduce the carryover of oil from the current system by removing the breather that is located in the rear housing and relocating the breather in the valve covers.Required Parts

Remove the side panel (1) and side panel (2) from the machine.

Panel (3) that is located underneath the catwalk can be removed in order to access to the rear of the engine.

Remove the valve covers (4) from the right side of the engine.

Assemble new valve covers that are shown in Illustration 4. Once the breather (6) has been assembled, install the breather on the engine.
Feed the breather tube (12) into position, but do not make any connections. The tube must remain loose until the new coolant line has been installed. You may also need to remove the exhaust pipe between the turbocharger and the muffler.
Drain the coolant into a suitable device that can hold 150 L (40 US gal) of fluid. The coolant will be reused once the lines have been changed. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7886, "Cooling System Coolant-Change" for information on draining and filling the cooling system.
Remove the coolant line that is between the tank and the water pump.
