FP286 3 Force PROPELLER (8-1/4 X 8-1/4 X 2)

1. Remove breather tube (1) from the engine.2. Remove two bolts (2) that fasten elbow (3) to the water temperature regulator cover. 3. Remove four bolts (6), lockwashers and plate (5) from the head and timing gear cover.4. Remove bolt (4) to disconnect clamp from the head. Install bolt (4) back in its correct location. 5. Remove the bolts (7) that fasten the cylinder head to the engine block. 6. Install a 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolt and fasten a hoist as shown. Remove cylinder head (8). The weight of the cylinder head assembly is 350 lb. (158 kg).
Do not put the cylinder head down on a flat surface. This can cause damage to the fuel injection valves.
A new spacer plate gasket must be installed when cylinder head is removed. See REMOVE AND INSTALL SPACER PLATE.Install Cylinder Head
1. Thoroughly clean the spacer plate and bottom surface of cylinder head. Install a new cylinder head gasket and seals (1). A new spacer plate gasket must be installed when cylinder head is removed. See REMOVE AND INSTALL SPACER PLATE.2. Install a 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolt and nut. Fasten a hoist and install cylinder head on cylinder block. The weight of the cylinder head is 350 lb. (158 kg).3. Put clean engine oil on the threads of the cylinder head bolts. Install the cylinder head bolts and washers. Tighten the bolts in the following sequence: a) Tighten bolts 1 through 20 in number sequence to a torque of 200 20 lb.ft. (270 25 N m).b) Tighten bolts 1 through 20 in number sequence to a torque of 330 15 lb.ft. (450 20 N m).c) Tighten bolts 1 through 20 in number sequence to a torque of 330 15 lb.ft. (450 20 N m) by hand.d) Install rocker shafts (2) and push rods. See INSTALL ROCKER SHAFTS AND PUSH RODS.e) Tighten bolts 21 through 26 in number sequence to a torque of 200 20 lb.ft. (270 25 N m).f) Tighten bolts 21 through 26 in number sequence to a torque of 330 15 lb.ft. (450 20 N m).g) Tighten bolts 21 through 26 in number sequence to a torque of 330 15 lb.ft. (450 20 N m) by hand.h) Tighten the 3/8" bolts (3) to a torque of 32 5 lb.ft. (43 7 N m). If studs (4) were removed, install new studs and tighten to a torque of 20 5 lb.ft. (25 7 N m).4. Make an adjustment to the valves to have a clearance of .015 in. (0.38 mm) for intake, and .030 in. (0.76 mm) for exhaust. Install valve cover bases and the inner fuel lines. 5. Install plate (7) on the cylinder head and timing gear cover with four bolts (8). Install clamp (5) with a bolt and washer. Install the breather.6. Install elbow (6) on water temperature regulator cover with two bolts.
