Information:
start by:a) remove fuel injection pump housing and governor 1. Install the fuel injection pump housing on tool (A).2. Remove bolts (1) that hold governor housing (2) to the fuel injection pump housing.3. Remove governor housing (2). 4. Remove the two springs (4) and seat (3) from the governor housing. Remove springs (4) from seat (3). 5. Remove spring (6), seat and piston assembly (9) and spring (8) from shaft (7).6. Remove cover (5). 7. Remove shaft (10) and lever (11) from the pump housing. 8. Remove thrust collar (13) from the shaft.9. Remove cover (12) from the pump housing. 10. Loosen the two bolts (14) that hold torque spring assembly (15) and remove it from the pump housing. 11. Remove pin (16) from the pump housing.12. Remove screw (18) and nut (19) from the pump housing.13. Remove the ring that holds the lever and remove lever (20) from dowel (17). Remove dowel (17) from the pump housing. Dowel (17) does not need to be removed unless the camshaft is to be removed. 14. Remove shield (21) from the camshaft with tool (B).
Pull on the shield only a small amount in each location, so it will not have distortion or damage. The metal of the shield is moved (staked) around the camshaft and the shield can be damaged when it is removed. If the shield has damage, use a new part for replacement.
15. Install timing pin (C) to hold the camshaft.16. Remove bolts (22) that hold the flyweight assembly (23) to the camshaft.17. Remove flyweight assembly (23) from the camshaft.Connection Of Governor To Fuel Injection Pump Housing
1. Put the fuel injection pump housing on bracket assembly (A).2. Install timing pin (B) to hold the camshaft.3. Put flyweight assembly (1) in position on the camshaft. Be sure the pin that holds shaft (2) is in position on the back of the flyweight assembly.4. Install the bolts that hold the flyweight assembly to the camshaft and tighten to a torque of 120 24 lb. in. (13.6 2.8 N m) for earlier governors and 90 10 lb. in. (10.5 1.1 N m) for later governors with thin bolt heads.5. Remove timing pin (B). 6. Put shield (3) in position over the flyweights. 7. Use driver (C) to install the shield the remainder of the way on to the camshaft. 8. Put a new O-ring seal on dowel (4) and install the dowel in the pump housing. Make the dowel even with the machined surface of the counterbore on the outside of the housing. 9. Put lever (8) on dowel (4) and install the ring that holds it on the dowel.10. Install screw (6) and nut (7) in the pump housing.11. Install pin (5) in the pump housing. 12. Put torque spring assembly (10) in position on the housing and tighten the two bolts (11) that hold it to the housing.13. Install cover (9) on the pump housing. 14. Put thrust collar (13) in position between the flyweights. Lift the flyweights up with a piece of wire and push thrust collar (13) forward.15. Put lever (14) in position in the housing and in the groove of thrust collar (13). Put a new O-ring seal on the shaft and install shaft (12) down through the housing and into the holes in lever (14). 16. Install cover (18) on the pump housing.17. Install spring (15) on the shaft.18. Install seat and piston assembly (16) on the shaft.19. Turn spring (17) on the piston and seat until it just makes contact with the shoulders on the piston and seat. The piston and seat must be in alignment after spring (17) is installed. If not, remove the spring and install again. 20. Install seat (19) and two springs (20) in the governor housing.
Both springs must make a full seat on seat (19) before installation in governor housing. If springs do not make a full seat, high idle speed will not be correct. Low idle governor surge can be caused by springs that do not make a full seat. It can also prevent a low idle setting with stability.
21. Install governor housing (21) on the pump housing.end by:a) make an adjustment of the fuel system setting (See FUEL SYSTEM in TESTING AND ADJUSTING)b) install fuel injection pump housing and governor
