LAJ00508Note: As referenced below, Percent Derate of the engine is common to the percent derate displayed in Cat® Electronic Technician (ET). Percent Power Loss refers to how much of the engine performance capability will be removed. "Percent Derate" as displayed in Cat ET, is always twice the actual percent power loss. The software enhancements and descriptions are listed below.Derates for Fuel Injector Diagnostic Codes
The previous production release of engine software announced inService Magazine, SEPD2039, New Engine Software is Now Available for 793F, 795F, and 797F, 797 Retrofit, and MT5300 Off-Highway Truck Engines had an error for derate of multiple level 2 -7 injector codes. The derate for injector codes was added to provide protection against cylinders going cold or not firing. The new software functionalities for the injector codes are the following:
Level 1 injector -7 codes will activate the check engine light and serve as an indication to the plan the injector for replacement at the next planned maintenance
Level 2 injector -7 codes are more urgent and should be planned for change at the end of the shift
Level 1 injector -7 codes do not contribute to an engine derate
Level 2 injector -7 codes do contribute to derate scenarios. If 2 or more injectors on one back of the engine have active level 2 -7 codes, the engine will be derated by 50% (25% power loss).Note: The -5, -6, -2 injector codes also count towards the active diagnostics and derate on the engine. Multiple faults on one bank of the engine will result in a derate to protect the other cylinders.1684-12 Diagnostic Code For High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) Failure
The 1684-12 code monitors the output of each of the pumping elements internal to the fuel pump using the rail pressure sensor. The diagnostic is intended to alert the operator that the fuel pump has failed and performance issues or contingent damage may result. The 1684-12 code has been switched from a Level 1 code to a Level 2 code. This change will provide increased visibility and priority to the operator to take action on the fault code.Note: An Advisor Software Update to 502-5113 Monitor Software Gp or newer is required to support the 1684-12 Level 2 code. The 1684-12 code will apply 50%derate (25% power loss) immediately upon detection of the fault code. Caterpillar recommends replacing the HPFP as soon as possible once the code if logged to prevent risk of contingent component damage.Fuel Consumption Optimization For 797F Tier 2, 797F LRC, and 797B Retrofit LRC Engines
Rating optimization has been performed to improve the cycle fuel efficiency for the 797F Tier 2, 797F LRC, and 797B Retrofit LRC engines.Adaptive Throttle Filter
An improved throttle signal filter has been implemented to reduce the rapid swings in engine fueling due to foot bouncing on the pedal while driving in rough terrain.
