Information:

1. Remove the clamps that hold breather tube (1) to the valve cover and the cylinder block. Remove breather tube (1).2. Remove the bolts that hold elbow (2) to the water temperature regulator housing. Remove elbow (2).3. Disconnect heater hose (4) from the water pump.4. Loosen the clamps that hold hose (5) to the water pump. Slide hose (5) away from the pump. 5. See the illustration for the correct location of the bolts that hold the water pump to the timing gear plate. The bolts that have identification (X) only must be removed to remove the water pump.6. Remove water pump (3). Remove the gasket from the timing gear plate.Install Water Pump
1. Put the water pump (1) and a new gasket in position on the timing gear plate. Install the bolts (4) that hold it in position. 2. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the O-ring seals on elbow (2). Put elbow (2) in position on the water pump. Install the bolts that hold it to the water temperature regulator housing.3. Connect heater hose (5) to water pump.4. Slide hose (6) into position on the water pump. Tighten the clamps that hold it.5. Put breather tube (3) in position. Install the clamps that hold the breather tube to the valve cover and cylinder block.end by: a) install engine oil coolerDisassemble Water Pump
start by:a) remove water pump 1. Remove bolts (1). Remove cover (2) from the water pump. 2. Remove O-ring seal (3) from the adapter.3. Remove adapter (4) from the housing. Remove the O-ring seal from the outside diameter of the adapter.4. Remove bolt and retainer that hold the impeller on the shaft. 5. Use tooling (A) to remove impeller (5) from the shaft. 6. Remove spring and seal (6) from the shaft. 7. Remove four bolts (8) from retainer (7) that holds the shaft assembly to the pump housing.8. Remove O-ring seal (9) from the housing. 9. Remove gear and shaft assembly (11) from the housing.10. Remove bolt (10) and retainer from the shaft assembly. 11. Use a press to remove the shaft assembly from gear (12). Remove the retainer from the shaft assembly. 12. Remove bearing (14), spacer (15) and bearing (13) from the shaft. 13. Remove lip seal (16) from the housing.14. Turn the housing over and remove ceramic ring (17) and seal.Assemble Water Pump
1. Install bearing (4), spacer (3) and bearing (2) on shaft (5).2. Put retainer (1) and gear (8) in position on the shaft assembly. Install retainer (7) and bolt (6). 3. Use tooling (A) to install the lip seal in the housing. Put a small amount of SAE 30 oil on the lip of the seal.4. Install a new O-ring seal (10) on the housing. 5. Put shaft assembly (9) in position in the housing. Install the bolts that hold the retainer to the housing.
Clean water only is permitted for use as a lubricant for assistance at installation. Do not damage or put hands on the wear surface of the carbon ring or the ceramic ring. Install the ceramic ring with the smoothest face of the ring toward the carbon seal assembly.
6. Put ceramic ring (12) in position in the rubber seal (11). Use hand pressure and the tool (which is with the replacement ring) to install the ceramic ring in the housing. 7. Remove the spring from the seal assembly (13). Use hand pressure and the tool (which is with the replacement ring) to install the seal assembly. Push seal assembly on the shaft until the seal faces make light contact. 8. Install spring (15) on the shaft.9. Put impeller (14) in position on the shaft. Install washer and bolt. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 29 2 lb.ft. (40 3 N m). 10. Install O-ring seal (17) on the outside diameter of the adapter. Put a small amount of SAE 30 oil on the O-ring seal.11. Install O-ring seal (18) on the adapter.12. Put adapter (16) in position on the housing. 13. Install cover (19) on the pump housing.end by:a) install water pump
