START BY:a. remove water pump 1. Hold shaft (1) with a wrench, and use an impact wrench to remove the nut from the other end of the shaft.2. Remove adapter (2) from the shaft. 3. Remove screws (3) and retainer (4) from the housing. 4. Use tooling (A) and a press as shown to remove shaft (1), seal assembly and impeller (6) from housing (5).5. Remove bearing (5) from the housing. Use tooling (B) to remove bearing (5) if it is tight in the housing. 6. Remove spacers (7) and (8) from the housing. 7. Remove bearing (9) from the housing. 8. Use tooling (C) and a press to remove shaft (1) from the impeller. 9. Install shaft (1) and seal assembly (10) in housing (5) as shown. Use tooling (C) and a press to remove shaft (1) from seal assembly (10). 10. Use a hammer and punch to remove the seal assembly from housing (5).Assemble Water Pump (Earlier)
1. Install the inner bearing in the housing with notch (2) in the bearing in alignment with notch (1) in the housing. 2. Install spacer (3) in the housing with the pin in the spacer in alignment with notch (1) in the housing and the notch in the bearing. The pin in the spacer prevents rotation of the outer bearing race. 3. Install spacer (4) and bearing (5) in the housing. Use tooling (B) and a press to install bearing (5) if necessary. 4. Put retainer (6) in position on the housing, and install the screws that hold it in place. 5. Install shaft (7) in the housing as shown. 6. Install adapter (8) on the shaft as shown.7. Put 9S3263 Thread Lock on the threads of shaft (7), and install the nut on the shaft. 8. Hold adapter (8) in a vise that has soft jaws.
Use extra care not to damage adapter (8) when it is held in a vise.
9. Use wrench (9) and adapter (8) in a vise to hold the shaft while the nut on the shaft is tightened to a torque of 200 20 N m (150 15 lb.ft.). 10. Install seal assembly (10) into the housing with tool (C) and a press. Do not use a hammer. 11. Install 5P7350 Spacer (12) as shown. Put impeller (13) in position on the shaft. Use 5P7353 Spacer (11) and a press to push impeller (13) on the shaft until spacer (12) can just be removed between the impeller and housing. The 5P7350 and 5P7353 Spacers are both part of tooling (A). If spacer (12) cannot be removed, do the following steps:a. Remove adapter (8) from the water pump.b. Use tooling (B) and a press to push the shaft from the adapter side of the water pump until the spacer can be removed.c. Put 9S3263 Thread Lock on the threads of the shaft. Install the adapter and nut on the shaft. Tighten the nut to a torque of 200 20 N m (150 15 lb.ft.) as shown in Step 9.END BY:a. install water pump
