Information:

start by:a) remove fuel injection linesb) remove fuel ratio control1. Make a setting of the fuel injection pump timing as follows: a) Turn the engine with tool (B) to top center of the compression stroke of No. 1 piston. See FINDING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in 3406 VEHICLE ENGINE, TESTING AND ADJUSTING. b) Remove the plug from the side of fuel injection pump housing. Install tool (A) through the hole in pump housing and into the notch in the injection pump camshaft. If tool (A) can not be installed in the notch of the injection pump camshaft, the injection pump is not in time with the engine and the following procedure must be followed: c) Remove nuts (1). Remove cover (2) for the automatic timing advance. d) Remove bolts (3) and washer (4). Install the bolts again.e) Turn the fuel injection pump drive shaft clockwise with bolt (3) until tool (A) can be put into the notch in the injection pump camshaft.f) Remove the bolts. Install washer (4) and bolts (3) so the washer is loose.g) Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel. Turn the engine 60° counterclockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) with tool (B). h) Tighten the bolts that hold the automatic timing advance by hand. Turn the engine clockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) with tool (B) until the engine is at top center compression stroke of No. 1 piston.i) Tighten the bolts (3) in the following sequence: 1. Tighten the bolts (3) to a torque of 25 lb.ft. (35 N m).2. Remove tool (A).3. Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 50 lb.ft. (70 N m).4. Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 100 5 lb.ft. (135 7 N m).
Do not tighten the bolt to final torque without removal of tool (A).
j) Turn the crankshaft two complete revolutions and check the timing to see that timing is correct. If the timing is correct, do not remove tool (A) from the fuel injection pump housing and timing bolt from flywheel.k) If the timing is not correct, do the above procedure again.l) Install the cover for the automatic timing advance and the nuts that hold it. 2. Disconnect lines (6) and (8) from the fuel injection pump housing. Remove the cotter pin from pin (7). Remove pin (7). Remove the bolts that hold bracket (9) to the governor. Move the bracket (9) and cable free of the governor.3. Remove the bolts (10) that hold the fuel injection pump housing to the fuel injection and governor drive. 4. Fasten a hoist to the fuel injection pump housing. Remove bolts (11) and (13) that hold the fuel injection pump housing to the cylinder block. Remove fuel injection pump housing and governor (12). Weight is 70 lb. (32 kg).Install Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor
1. Fasten a hoist to the fuel injection pump housing. Put fuel injection pump housing and governor (1) in position on the fuel injection pump and governor drive.2. Install the bolts that hold the fuel injection pump housing to the cylinder block. Install the bolts that hold the fuel injection pump housing to the fuel injection pump and governor drive.3. Put the cable bracket (4) in position on the governor housing. Install the bolts that hold it. Put the link (5) in position on the lever. Install the pin and cotter pin that hold it. 4. Connect lines (2) and (3) to the fuel injection pump housing.5. Remove tool (A) from the pump housing. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel. Turn the crankshaft two complete revolutions and check the timing to see that the timing is correct. If timing is not correct, see REMOVE FUEL INJECTION PUMP HOUSING AND GOVERNOR for the timing procedure.6. Remove tool (A) from the pump housing. Install the plug in the pump housing. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel. Install the timing bolt in the flywheel housing.7. See GOVERNOR CONTROL ADJUSTMENT in 3406 VEHICLE ENGINE, TESTING AND ADJUSTING for adjustment of the lever and the link on the governor.end by: a) install fuel ratio controlb) install fuel injection lines
