Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin. Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
1. If equipped with the high speed oil change, install Tool (A) on male coupler (1) as shown. Drain the oil from the oil pan in a suitable container for storage or disposal. Without the high speed oil change, position a suitable container under the oil pan to contain the oil for storage or disposal. Loosen oil drain plug (3), and drain the oil from oil pan (2). The capacity of the crankcase is 68 L (18 U.S. gal). 2. Loosen two bolts (5) from fumes disposal tubes (7). Remove two bolts (6), the washers, and bracket assembly (4) from the oil pan. 3. If equipped with high speed oil change, mark and identify hose assembly (8) for installation purposes. Remove hose assembly (8) from flared elbow (9). Cap and plug all connections to avoid system contamination. 4. Remove two bolts (10) and the washers from oil tube assembly (11). 5. Remove two bolts (12), the washers, two retainers (13), and oil tube assembly (11) from the oil pan. Remove O-ring seal (14), retainer ring (15), and gasket (16) from oil tube assembly (11). 6. Using wood blocks on Tool (B) support oil pan (2) as shown. 7. Remove forty bolts (17), the washers, the gasket, and oil pan (2) from the engine block. The weight of oil pan (2) is 25 Kg (55 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the oil pan.8. Make sure all components of the oil pan are clean of dirt and foreign material prior to installation. Clean all gasket material from the mating surfaces of the oil pan.9. Check all O-ring seals and components for wear or damage and replace if necessary.10. Lubricate all O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant being sealed. 11. Put two oil pan end section gaskets (18) in position on oil pan (2). Put four oil pan side section gaskets (19) in position on oil pan (2). Put four oil pan side section gaskets (20) in position on oil pan (2). Put two oil pan side section gaskets (21) in position on oil pan (2).12. Apply 8T-9022 Gasket Silicone to all gasket joints marked (X). Apply the gasket silicone only to the top and bottom of the joints. 13. Using wood blocks on Tool (B) put oil pan (2) and the gasket in position on the engine block, as shown. The weight of oil pan (2) is 25 Kg (55 lb). 14. Install forty bolts (17) and the washers to oil pan (2). 15. Install retainer ring (15), O-ring seal (14), and gasket (16) on oil tube assembly (11). Install oil tube assembly (11), two retainers (13), two bolts (12), and the washers to the oil pan. 16. Install two bolts (10) and the washers to oil tube assembly (11). 17. If equipped with the high speed oil change install hose assembly (8) to flared elbow (9). 18. Install bracket assembly (4), two bolts (6), and the washers to the oil pan. Tighten two bolts (5) to fumes disposal tubes (7). 19. Tighten drain plug (3). 20. If equipped with the high speed oil change install Tool (A) on male coupler (1) as shown. Without the high speed oil change remove filler cap (22) from tube assembly (23) and fill the crankcase. Install filler cap (22) on tube assembly (23). The capacity of the crankcase is 68 L (18 U.S. gal). For the correct filling procedures refer to the topic "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" in the 24H Motor Grader, Operation & Maintenance Manual.
