1. Remove two nuts (2) and (3) and the washers from alternator guard (4). Remove alternator guard (4) from alternator (1). 2. Remove spacer (6) from each bolt (5). 3. Remove three bolts (8) and the washers that hold alternator guard (9) to the engine. Remove nut (7) and the washer that hold alternator guard assembly (9) to alternator (1). 4. Loosen nuts (12) and (14) off block (13) to release the belt tension on alternator belt (15).5. Position bolt (10) flush with alternator support (11), as shown. Remove alternator guard assembly (9). 6. Remove alternator belt (15) from alternator pulley (16). 7. Remove the bolt and the washer that hold ground cable (17) to alternator (1)8. Remove the nut, bolt, and the washers that hold wire harness (18) to alternator (1). 9. Slide boot (19) off nut (20).10. Remove nut (20) and the washer that holds cable (21) to alternator (1). Disconnect cable (21) from alternator (1). 11. Remove bolts (10) and (23) and remove rod assembly (22) and the washers.12. Remove bolt (24) and the washers that hold alternator (1) to alternator support (11). Remove alternator (1) from support (11). The weight of alternator (1) is 14 Kg (30 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the alternator. 13. Put alternator (1) in position on alternator support (11). Install bolt (24) and the washers that hold alternator (1) to alternator support (11). Put rod assembly (22) in position and install bolts (10), (23) and the washers. 14. Connect cable (21) to alternator (1). Install nut (20) and the washer to alternator (1). Tighten nut (20) to a torque of 7.1 .8 N m (63 7 lb in).15. Position boot (19) over nut (20). 16. Put ground cable (17) in position on alternator (1) and install the bolt and the washer. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 6.2 .6 N m (55 5 lb in).17. Put wire harness (18) in position on alternator (1) and install the nut, bolt, and the washers. 18. Install alternator belt(15) on alternator pulley (16). 19. Position bolt (10) flush with alternator support (11), as shown.20. Put alternator guard assembly (9) in position on the alternator, as shown.21. Adjust nuts (12) and (14) on block (13), to apply a small amount of tension on alternator belt (15) at this time. Do not tighten alternator belt to the correct gauge reading at this time. 22. Install nut (7) and the washer that holds alternator guard assembly (9) to alternator (1). Install three bolts (8) and the washers that hold alternator guard assembly (9) to the engine. 24. Install spacer (6) on each bolt (5). 25. Put alternator guard (4) in position on alternator (1). Install nuts (2) and (3) and the washers on alternator (1). Use a belt tension gauge such as a Burroughs Tool Company (Part No. BT 33-95) or equivalent to check the belt tension. The correct gauge reading is 534 22 N (120 5 lb) for a new belt or 401 45 N (90 10 lb) for a used belt.
