Information:
start by: a) remove timing gear cover and oil pump1. Remove the plug from the fuel injection pump housing and install timing pin (A).2. While turning the crankshaft clockwise as seen from the front of the engine, push on timing pin (A) until it slides into the groove (slot) in the fuel injection pump camshaft.3. Remove the tachometer drive adapter shaft and install tooling (B) as follows: a) Install bolt assembly (2) in the fuel injection pump camshaft. The bolt assembly must turn freely into the camshaft. Do not use force to install the bolt assembly.b) Install bolt (1) in the gear.c) Tighten the bolt and remove gear (3). 4. Remove screw (4), washer (5), and gear (6) from the camshaft. 5. Install tooling (C) and remove gear (7) from the camshaft.Install Camshaft Gears (Engines With Taper Drive For Fuel Injection Pump)
Do not heat the gear for the camshaft with a torch or to a temperature of more than 400°F (204°C). Higher temperatures can cause the dowels to loosen and come out of the gear. Do not use force to install the gear. Damage to the camshaft or camshaft thrust pin can be the result.
1. Heat the large gear for the camshaft to a maximum temperature of 400°F (204 C). Put the groove (slot) on the gear in alignment with the dowel on the camshaft and install the gear so the timing marks on the camshaft gear and crankshaft gear are in alignment.
GEARS SHOWN OUT OF ENGINE FOR BETTER PHOTO ILLUSTRATION2. Put gear (1) in position on the dowels. Put pin (4) on washer (3) in alignment with hole (2) and install the washer.
GEARS SHOWN OUT OF ENGINE BETTER PHOTO ILLUSTRATION3. Install screw (5). Tighten the screw to a torque of 108 36 lb.in. (124.5 41.5 cm.kg). Put marks (stake) on the screw in two places with a hammer and punch. 4. Put gear (7) for the fuel injection pump camshaft in position and install tachometer drive adapter shaft (6). Tighten the shaft to a torque of 32 2 lb.ft. (4.4 0.3 mkg).5. After the timing gear cover has been installed, check the timing as follows: a) Remove timing pin (A).b) Turn the crankshaft clockwise as seen from the front of the engine approximately 1/2 turn. Install timing pin (A) again.c) While turning the crankshaft clockwise, push on timing pin (A) until it slides into the groove (slot) in the fuel injection pump camshaft. d) Remove plug (8) from the timing hole. Remove bolt (9) and install it through the timing hole and into the camshaft gear. The timing is correct when timing pin (A) is installed in the fuel injection pump camshaft and bolt (9) is installed in the camshaft gear.e) Remove the bolt and install the plug. Remove timing pin (A) and install the plug. If the bolt can not be installed, the timing must be corrected as follows: a) With timing pin (A) installed, remove the tachometer drive adapter housing and shaft.b) Loosen the gear from the fuel injection pump camshaft. Turn the crankshaft clockwise approximately two full turns until bolt (9) can be installed. Install the bolt.c) Install tachometer drive adapter shaft and tighten it to a torque of 32 2 lb.ft. (4.4 0.3 mkg). Install the adapter housing. Remove the bolt and timing pin and install the plugs.end by: a) install timing gear cover and oil pump
