Information:
The gearbox has an input shaft that is belt-driven by the engine and splined to the pinion. The pinion meshes with two drive gears which are splined to the two pump shafts. The drive belts turn the input shaft and pinion, and the pinion turns the drive gears and pump shafts. The pump shafts turn in the direction opposite the gearbox input shaft, at a speed faster than the input shaft by the ratio .91 to 1. The pinion and drive gears are straddle mounted in ball bearings.Lubrication
The oil level in the gearbox should be kept at check plug level to ensure proper lubrication of internal components.Under normal operating conditions the SAE 90 gear lubricant (GL) specified in "Service Data" should be used; however, the lubricant should be changed if the operating temperatures are higher or lower than normal:1. If the gearbox case temperature is consistently above 220°F, use an SAE 140 gear lubricant.2. If the atmospheric temperature is 30°F and above, use an SAE 90 gear lubricant.3. If the atmospheric temperature is 50°F and below, use an SAE 30 gear lubricant.Internal and external splines should be liberally greased whenever the input shaft or a hydraulic pump is replaced.Removing The Gearbox
INADVERTENT STARTING OF THE ENGINE CAN CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY. SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH BEFORE WORKING ON THE GEARBOX.
1. Thoroughly clean around the hydraulic hose ends and pump connections, then mark the hoses for identification when reinstalling the gearbox. 2. Close the track drive pump supply line shutoff valve, then disconnect from the pumps all the hoses that run to other parts of the machine. Cap or plug all openings immediately. Hoses that run between different parts of one pump need not be disconnected. 3. Disconnect the track drive pump control bracket and cable from the pump and lay them aside where they will not be damaged. DO NOT ALTER THE CONTROL CABLE ADJUSTMENT.4. Remove the gearbox drive belt guard. 5. Loosen the gearbox support clamping bolts, turn the adjusting bolts to loosen the drive belts, then remove the drive belts from the gearbox sheave.6. Attach a lifting device to the track drive pump (about 173 pounds) and the auxiliary pump (about 25 pounds), remove the track pump mounting bolts, pull the pumps straight out from the gearbox until the pump shaft is clear, then lift the pumps away. Be sure not to lose the adapter sleeve. Cover the opening in the gearbox to keep dirt out.7. Remove the conveyor drive pump in the same way as in step 6.8. Attach a lifting device to the gearbox, remove the check plugs from each end of the gearbox, remove the mounting bolts from the gearbox, then lift the gearbox up and away. As soon as the gearbox is clear of the support, reinstall the check plugs to keep the oil from spilling out.9. Remove the sheave from the gearbox drive flange.Disassembling The Gearbox
1. If the adapter sleeves stayed with the gearbox, remove them.2. Remove the input assembly and pinion from the gearbox.3. Remove the pump mounting plates from the gearbox.4. Remove the drive gears from the gearbox. The gears will remain with their bearings as sub-assemblies.5. Remove the bearings from the gears with a puller. 6. Remove the input shaft from the input assembly, then remove the bearing and seal.7. Inspect the case for cracks or other damage, especially around bolt holes and shoulders that support bearings.8. Clean and inspect gears for chipped, broken or cracked teeth or splines.9. Clean and inspect the bearings.Assembling The Gearbox
Reassemble in reverse order of disassembly. Turn the input shaft by hand to ensure that the unit is free running. (Any binding of bearings in housing bores will load the bearings endwise and cause excessive heat when running). Use all new gaskets, seals and O-rings. Cover openings to keep dirt out of the gearbox.Installing The Gearbox
1. Bolt the sheave to the gearbox drive flange. Tighten the bolts evenly and alternately.2. Attach a lifting device to the gearbox, move the gearbox near the support, remove the check plugs from the ends of the gearbox, lower the gearbox into the support, and install the mounting bolts. Reinstall the check plugs.3. Place the drive belts on the gearbox sheave, use the adjusting bolts to adjust the belt tension, then tighten the jam nuts.4. Install the belt guard.5. Coat the adapter sleeves with non-corrosive grease and install them in the gearbox.6. Move the track drive pump and attached auxiliary pump into position, coat the pump shaft with non-corrosive grease, position the O-ring, insert the shaft into the gearbox, and install the mounting bolts.7. Install the dual unit conveyor pump in the same way as in step 6.8. Thoroughly clean around the pump ports and hydraulic hose ends, then connect the hoses to the pumps. 9. Open the track drive pump supply line shutoff valve, loosen the supply hose connection at each pump until air-free hydraulic oil flows from the connection, then tighten the connection.
THE SUPPLY HOSE TO EACH PUMP MUST BE FILLED WITH HYDRAULIC OIL BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE, OR THE PUMP WILL BE DAMAGED.
10. Fill the track drive pump case and the auxiliary pump case through the uppermost case drain port with filtered hydraulic oil. 11. Connect the control bracket and cable to the track drive pump.12. Check the oil level in the hydraulic oil tank and transfer oil from the replenishing tank as necessary.13. Add lubricant to the gearbox until it reaches check plug level.14. Loosen the outlet hose connection on the auxiliary pump, turn the engine with the starter until air-free hydraulic oil flows from the connection, then tighten the connection.15. Start the engine and set it at the lowest speed possible. Run the engine for about 30 minutes or until smooth operation, normal noise level, and stable temperature of the gearbox and pumps are ensured.
PARTICULAR ATTENTION SHOULD BE GIVEN DURING THE INITIAL START-UP TO DETECT ANY UNUSUAL NOISE OR TEMPERATURE LEVELS IN THE GEARBOX OR PUMPS. IF
