Illustration 1 g01313854Note: Mark the positions of the engine supports and the shims for proper installation. The right side engine supports are connected to the plates on the generator base by dowels. The dowels must be removed before the mounting supports can be removed.
Remove the plastic caps from the engine supports to the access hole for the dowels. Use a 1/2 inch bolt with a washer in order to remove the dowels, if necessary.
Attach a suitable lifting device to the engine lifting brackets. The weight of the C280-12 Engine is approximately 26000 kg (57300 lb). The weight of the C280-16 Engine is approximately 30000 kg (66100 lb).
Remove bolts (2) that hold engine supports (4) to the generator base. Check the O-ring seals on the bolts for damage. If necessary, replace the O-ring seals. The O-ring seals should be installed on clean bolts.
Lift the engine enough in order to place a suitable lifting device around engine support (4). Use forcing bolt (3) in order to help lift the engine. The weight of each engine support (4) is approximately 70 kg (155 lb).
Remove the shims, if necessary.
Remove bolts (1) and bolts (5) that hold engine support (4) to the cylinder block.
Tap engine support (4) with a rubber mallet in order to loosen the dowels from the cylinder block.
Remove engine support (4) from the side of the cylinder block.
If necessary, remove the dowels from engine support (4). Installation Procedure

If the dowels were removed from engine support (4), install the dowels. The dowels must extend 20 1 mm (0.790 0.040 inch) above the surface of engine support (4). Check the O-ring seals for damage. If necessary, replace the O-ring seals.
Use a suitable lifting device to place engine support (4) in position on the side of the cylinder block. The weight of each engine support (4) is approximately 70 kg (155 lb). Install bolts (5) and bolts (1). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 1125 100 N m (830 75 lb ft).
Install the shims in the original location, if necessary.
Install the dowels through engine support (4) and into the base on the right side of the engine, if necessary.
Lower the engine onto the base assembly. The weight of the C280-12 Engine is approximately 26000 kg (57300 lb). The weight of the C280-16 Engine is approximately 30000 kg (66100 lb). Remove forcing bolt (3) when you lower the engine. Install bolts (2).
Check the alignment between the engine and the driven equipment.
Perform the following check for soft foot:
Soft foot is measured with a dial indicator. Mount a dial indicator from the base assembly to the top of the foot next to the engine block. Be sure that all the jacking screws are loose. While one foot at a time is loosened, the deflection of the foot must not change more than 0.076 mm (0.0030 inch). If necessary, add shims in order to eliminate the soft foot. Repeat the procedure for the soft foot until all the feet are measured for compliance with specifications. If necessary, add shims under the feet in order to eliminate gaps. When possible, avoid using shims under the foot with the slider block. Do not trim the shims. The addition of shims is required in order to provide equal loading on each foot. This equalization prevents unnecessary stresses in the welds and the components.
Replace the plastic cap on the access hole for the dowels on engine support (4). End By:
Remove the engine lifting brackets.
