Inputs
The engine speed has 10 inputs. The inputs are listed in the following table:
Table 1
Number of Input     Address     Description
0     I:1/0     "Speed signal input"
1     I:1/1     "75% overspeed verify"
2     I:1/2     "Overspeed reset"
3     I:1/3     "Unused 1"
4     I:1/4     "Unused 2"
5     I:1/5     "Timer configuration input 1"
6     I:1/6     "Timer configuration input 2"
7     I:1/7     "Rated speed configuration input 1"
8     I:1/8     "Rated speed configuration input 2"
9     I:1/9     "Rated speed configuration input 3"    "Speed signal input" - The input 0 reads the signal from the speed sensor. The speed sensor is mounted near the flywheel of the engine. The input requires a minimum value of a 9 volt peak pulse (4.5 volt true RMS) from each tooth of the flywheel and a 0 VDC signal from each gap between teeth. The signal is generated by the gap between the teeth of the flywheel. The inputs are needed in order to accurately read the speed of the engine. This input can read a square wave signal up to 6600 Hz. The following alarms are based on pulse counts that are provided by the input of the engine speed sensor:overspeed alarm, crank terminate speed and oil step."75% verify" - When the "75% verify" input is wired to +24 VDC, the function becomes active. The "75% verify" input is active as voltage is seen on input 1. While the input is active, the overspeed setpoint for the engine will be 75% of the normal setpoint. The feature is used for testing only. If the input 1 is active and the engine has not reached the 75% overspeed, output 4 will flash. The output for engine overspeed is ON when the engine reaches the 75% overspeed. Output 4 is solid."Reset" - When input 2 is wired to +24 VDC and the engine speed has reached 0 RPM, the output for engine overspeed will reset. If the overspeed was triggered by the "75% verify" input, the reset will clear output 4.
Table 2
Time delay     Input 6     Input 5
9 seconds     inactive     inactive
15 seconds     inactive     active
18 seconds     active     inactive    An "active" input is tied to +24 VDC.An "inactive" input is floating."Timer configuration" - Input 5 and input 6 are used in order to configure the timer for speed switch crank terminate. Refer to table 2 for the settings for the timer. The jumpers are used in order to set the amount of time between crank terminate speed and the energizing of output 2. The default value (no jumpers) is 9 seconds. In table 2, an "active" indicates that the input should be wired to +24 VDC. An "inactive" indicates that the input should be floating. When the configuration is changed and power is applied to the switch, the power must be cycled before the new settings can take effect. The time should not be increased until the engine oil pressure is confirmed.
Table 3
Rated Speed (RPM)     Input 9     Input 8     Input 7
720     active     inactive     inactive
750     inactive     active     active
900     inactive     active     inactive
930     inactive     inactive     active
1000     inactive     inactive     inactive
1050     active     active     active    An "active" input is tied to +24 VDC.An "inactive" input is floating."Rated speed configuration" - Input 7, input 8, and input 9 are used in order to configure the speed switch for the rated speed of the engine. Refer to table 3 for the different configurations. The jumpers must be set correctly in order for the speed switch to function correctly. When the configuration is changed and power is applied to the switch, the power must be cycled before the new settings can take effect.Outputs
Table 4
Output     Address     Description
0     O:0/0     "Overspeed"
1     O:0/1     "Crank terminate"
2     O:0/2     "Crank terminate plus time delay"
3     O:0/3     "Oil step"
4     O:0/4     "75% verify lamp"
5     O:0/5     "Speed switch healthy"    "Overspeed" - The "overspeed" output latches to the ON position when the engine speed exceeds a maximum speed that is calculated. The overspeed occurs at 113% of the rated engine speed. The output is latched until the engine is at 0 RPM and the reset input is energized."Crank terminate" - The output for "crank terminate" is ON when the engine speed exceeds 170 RPM. The output remains ON until the engine has reached 0 RPM and 2 seconds have passed."Crank terminate plus time delay" - Output 2 energizes after crank terminate speed plus time delay. The output stays energized until the output for crank terminate speed de-energizes. The amount of time after crank terminate speed is defined by the user. The amount of time is based on the settings of the jumper cable on input 5 and input 6. See table 2 for the times."Oil step" - The "oil step" output is ON when the engine speed exceeds a calculated speed plus a nine second delay. The RPM for the oil step is 75% of the rated speed. The output will stay ON until the engine speed drops to the value that is calculated plus a hysteresis constant."75% verify active" - Output 4 energizes when the "75% verify" input is energized.
