4210-5
Engine Pre-lube Drive : Current Below Normal 338-5
Engine Pre-Lube Pump Relay : Current Below Normal The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects an open in the circuit for the engine prelubrication relay.
The ECM detects a short to battery voltage in the circuit for the prelubrication relay.
The ECM can only detect this condition when the output driver is not activated.
4210-6
Engine Pre-lube Drive : Current Above Normal 338-6
Engine Pre-Lube Pump Relay : Current Above Normal The ECM detects a short in the circuit for the prelubrication relay.
The ECM can only detect this condition when the output driver is activated.

(1) Prelube pumpThe ECM prelubes the engine automatically before cranking the engine. The prelubrication cycle increases the life of certain engine parts. The ECM initiates the prelube cycle when the keyswitch is placed in the START position. The ECM controls the entire prelubrication cycle. The following conditions must be true in order for the prelube cycle to activate:
The engine speed must equal zero rpm.
The parking brake must be engaged. An override on Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) allows the technician to activate the prelube system. The override is functional when the engine speed is 0 rpm.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Inspect the Electrical Connectors and the Wiring
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Thoroughly inspect the connectors for prelube solenoid. Also, thoroughly inspect ECM connectors. Inspect all of the other connectors that are in the circuit for the prelube system. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect".
C. Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires in the ECM connector that are associated with the circuit.
D. Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion and for pinch points.
Electrical Connectors and Wiring
Result: The harness and wiring appear to be OK.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: There is a problem in the connectors and/or wiring.
Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Ensure that all of the seals are properly in place and ensure that the connectors are coupled.
If the repair does not eliminate the problem, proceed to Test Step 2.
2. Check for Codes
A. Connect Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector.
B. Determine if a code is active or logged.
Codes
Result: No diagnostic codes are active.
Repair: The problem may have been related to a faulty connection in the harness. Carefully inspect the connectors and wiring. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect".
If the repair does not eliminate the problem, proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: A short circuit diagnostic code -6 is active at this time.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: An open circuit
