Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
Disconnect batteries before performance of any service work.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
This Special Instruction provides the information that is necessary to install the 199-3409 Solenoid Assembly to the governor assembly. 199-3409 Solenoid Assembly

Remove the following items: former solenoid, stop lever and O-ring. Clean the installation surface.
Coat O-ring seal (8) with silicone lube and install the O-ring seal in the counterbore around the shaft.
Install the stop lever (10) and bolt for lever (7). Hold the lever in the position and torque the bolt to 8 N m (70 lb in).
Install the formed rubber seal (not shown) by pressing the round form into the cast hole in the governor housing.
Install solenoid (5). Torque the nuts for guide bolt (11) to 12 N m (106 lb in).Note: The solenoid bracket must be flush with the governor.
Coat the chamfered side of the spacer (3) with lube and install the spacer on the shaft.Note: Retract the solenoid plunger in order to gain clearance.
Coat the solenoid to shaft link (6) with lube. Install the solenoid to shaft link (6) on the shaft and the solenoid.
Coat the chamfered side of spacer (3) with lube and install spacer (3) on the shaft. Add the washer for shaft (2) and retainer clip (1) .
Check solenoid operation before attaching the cover.
Coat the edges of cover (9) with silicone lube.
Install cover (9) with bolts (4) finger tight. Press the cover inward toward the solenoid. Then, tighten the bolts.
