Information:

Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants put into the system may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
1. Remove fuel ratio control group (1) from governor (2). Photo shows the fuel ratio control group still connected.2. Remove six bolts (3), two bolts (4), and remove housing (5) and the gasket. 3. Remove governor spring (6), seat (7) and the washers. 4. Remove six bolts (8), cover (9) and the gasket. Use Tool (A) to remove seal (10). 5. Remove low idle adjustment screw (11) and spring (12). 6. Remove shaft assembly (13) and levers (14) and (15). 7. Remove two snap rings (16) from two pins (17). Remove pins (17). Remove plates (18) and stop (19). 8. Remove pins (20) and (21) and remove spring (22). 9. Remove two bolts (23), and the washers, and remove adapter (24), the coupling, and the O-ring seal.10. Remove contact (25) and body (26) with an O-ring seal.11. Remove two bolts (27) and the washers and remove cover (28) and the gasket.12. Remove two nuts and the washers (29) and remove shutoff solenoid (30) and the gasket. 13. Remove shaft (31) and lever (32).
The check valve will be damaged during removal. Remove check valve (33) only if a replacement is necessary.
14. Remove check valve (33) if a replacement is necessary. 15. Remove seal (34) and adjustment screw (35). 16. Remove bolt (36), housing (37) and the gasket from the fuel injection pump housing.
Typical Example17. Remove bolts (38) and remove torque control group (39).18. Disassemble torque control group (39) and inspect the spacer, the spring, and the insulator for damage or wear. Replace worn or damaged parts with new parts. 19. Remove two bolts (40) and block (41). 20. Remove the bolt that holds collar (42) to bolt (43). Remove collar (42), spring (44) and bolt (43).21. Remove the stop screws from collar (42), if a replacement collar is necessary. 22. Remove three bolts (46) and remove governor servo (45). The governor servo must be rotated to release it from the rack regulator. 23. Remove lockring (47), seat (48), link spring (49) and sleeve (50). Remove the other lockring (47) from the groove in the center of valve (51). Remove valve (51), sleeve (52) and piston (53). Piston must be pushed down to be removed. Remove O-ring seal from sleeve (52). Remove pin (54) and lever (55). 24. Use Tool (B) to hold spring (56) in compression for removal of ring (57). Spring (56) is used to put a preload on the thrust bearing for the camshaft in the fuel injection pump housing.25. Remove ring (57) and Tool (B). 26. Remove bearing (58), sleeves (59) and spring (56). 27. Remove ring (60) and dashpot assembly (61). 28. Use Tool (C) to remove snap ring (62). Remove ring (63) and spool (64).29. Remove seat (65) from spring (66) and remove spring (66) from seat (67). 30. Remove riser (68). 31. Remove ring (69), races (70) and bearing (71). 32. Remove four bolts (72) and carrier (73). 33. Remove dowels (74) and flyweights (75). Remove governor shaft (76) and the dowel (not shown) from shaft (76). 34. Remove races (77) and bearing (78).Assemble Governor
Put clean oil on all parts before assembly. Be sure all oil passages are clear. Check the condition of the gaskets and O-ring seals. If the gaskets, seals, or any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. 1. Install one race (77), bearing (78) and the other race (77) on the camshaft in the fuel injection pump housing. 2. Put flyweights (75) in position on carrier (73) and install the dowels to hold the flyweights in place. The flyweights must move freely on the dowels. 3. Install dowel (79) in governor shaft (76) and install the governor shaft in the carrier (73). 4. Put carrier (73) in position and install bolts (72). 5. Install race (70), bearing (71) and race (70). Use Tool (C) to install ring (69) on riser (68). 6. Install riser (68). 7. Assemble the dashpot as follows: a. Install spring (66) on seat (67) and install seat (65) in spring (66).b. Put spool (64) and ring (63) in position on seat (65) and use Tool (C) to install snap ring (62). 8. Install dashpot assembly (61). 9. Install ring (60) in the lower groove in the governor shaft. Installsleeve (59), spring (56), sleeve (59) and bearing (58). Spring (56) is used to put a preload on the thrust bearing on the camshaft in the fuel injection pump housing. 10. Use Tool (B) to hold spring (56) in compression and install ring (57) in the groove in the governor shaft. Remove Tool (B). 11. Put lever (55) in position on the governor servo and install pin (54) to hold the lever in place. Use a hammer and chisel to move the metal (stake) four places 90 degrees apart on the outside surface on both legs of the governor servo to hold pin (54) in place.12. Install the O-ring seal on sleeve (52). Install piston (53) and sleeve (52).13. Install valve (51).14. Install one lockring (47) in the groove near the center of valve (51).
