Information:
Start By:a. remove cylinder head assemblyb. remove oil pan 1. Remove the bolt, and remove cooling jet (1).2. Check the connecting rods and caps for their identification and location. The connecting rod and the rod cap should have the cylinder number etched on the right side as indicated by the arrow. If not marked, etch each unmarked connecting rod/or cap during removal.3. Remove rod cap bolts (2) and the cap from the connecting rod. Remove the lower half of the bearing from the cap. 4. Push piston and connecting rod (4) away from the crankshaft; then remove upper half of the rod bearing (5).5. Remove the piston and connecting rod. The following steps are for the installation of the pistons and connecting rod assemblies.6. Put clean engine oil on piston rings, piston and cylinder bore. 7. Position the piston ring end gaps 120 degrees apart, and install tooling (A).8. With the number one crankshaft throw at bottom center, install the piston and connecting rod. Some engines use pistons which have the word "FRONT" stamped on the crown of the piston. Be sure the word "FRONT" is toward the front of the engine when the piston is installed. The etched number on the connecting rod must be on the right side and must be installed in the corresponding cylinder.9. Taking care to line up connecting rod and crankshaft, carefully tap the piston into the cylinder bore until tooling (A) comes off the piston.10. Before the connecting rod comes into contact with the crankshaft, install the upper half of the rod bearing. Be sure the bearing tab properly engages with the slot in the connecting rod.11. Put clean engine oil on the upper rod bearing surface, then tap the piston down, guiding the connecting rod onto the crankshaft.12. Position the lower half of rod bearing in the corresponding numbered rod cap. Be sure the bearing tab engages with the groove in the rod caps.13. Put clean engine oil on the lower rod bearing surface; then install the rod cap. Install the bearing cap on the connecting rod with the number on the bearing (rod) cap on the same side and same number as on the connecting rod.14. Put 2P2506 Thread Lubricant on the threads of the bolts. Install rod cap bolts (1), and tighten them to a torque of 130 7 N m (95 5 lb ft). Mark each bolt head, and then tighten each bolt an additional 60 5 degrees (1/6 turn).15. Repeat the above steps for the remainder of the pistons and connecting rods.End By:a. install oil panb. install cylinder head assemblyDisassemble & Assemble Piston & Connecting Rod Assemblies
Start By:a. remove piston and connecting rod assemblies. 1. Use tooling (A), and remove piston rings (1) from piston crown (2). 2. Remove plug (3), and remove the piston pin. Separate piston crown (2), piston skirt (4) and connecting rod (5).
The connecting rod must be heated for the installation of the piston pin bearing. Do not use a torch.
3. Heat connecting rod (5) in the area indicated by the illustration to a temperature of 175 to 260°C (347 to 500°F) to install the piston pin bearing. The bearing joint must be at either location indicated by the arrows 10 degrees.4. Use tooling (B) to remove and install bearing (6) at the same time. The following steps are for the assembly of the pistons and connecting rods.5. Put connecting rod (5) in position on the base plate of tooling (B). Put a new rod pin bearing (6) on the adapter [part of tooling (B)]. Press the bearing into connecting rod.
Verify correct assembly of the pistons and connecting rod assemblies. Be sure the stamped word "FRONT" and the etched numbers on the rod and rod cap is in the correct positions. The etched number on the rod and rod cap designates the cylinder in which it should be installed.
6. Put the piston in position on connecting rod (5). Put clean engine oil on pin (7), and install the pin. Install a new plug (3), do not reuse the old plug.7. Check the clearance between the ends of the piston rings. See the topic, "Pistons And Rings" in the "Specifications" module Form No. SENR5560. The oil ring is to be installed over the spring with the end gap 180 degrees from the oil ring spring joint.8. Install the oil regulating piston ring with following procedure. The oil ring spring ends are to be assembled 180 degrees from ring end gap (white colored portion of spring must be visible at ring end gap).9. Install the second (intermediate) piston ring with the side that has the identification "UP-1" toward the top of the piston (green color stripe to right of ring end gap). Use tool (A) to install the ring.10. Install the first (top) piston ring with the side that has the identification "UP-1" toward the top of the piston (yellow color stripe to right of ring end gap). Use tool (A) to install the ring.11. After the installation of all three piston rings, put the piston rings in position so the end gaps are 120 degrees apart. Some engines use pistons which have the word "FRONT" stamped on the crown of the piston. Be sure the word "FRONT" is toward the front of the engine when the piston is installed. The etched number on the connecting rod must be on the right side and must be installed in the corresponding cylinder.End By:a. install piston and connecting rod assemblies
