Thoroughly clean the spacer plate and the bottom surface of the cylinder head. Install spacer plate gasket (17) .

Install spacer plate (16) and the water ferrules.

Install a new cylinder head gasket (15) .

Fasten Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to cylinder head assembly (13) . The weight of cylinder head assembly (13) is approximately 135 kg (298 lb). Ensure that the cylinder head gasket is in the proper position and install the cylinder head assembly.Note: Do not install the (3/8 in) bolts along the top of the cylinder head at this time.

12 CylinderNote: There are two different torque procedures for cylinder heads. For torque procedure using Tooling (B) use Step 5 and for torque procedure not using Tooling (B) use Step 6.
Use the tightening sequence below to tighten the bolts that hold the cylinder head in position. Refer to Illustration 5. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of bolts (1) . Apply engine oil to the threads of bolts (2) . Install bolts (1) and bolts (2) .
Tighten Bolts 1 through 20 in the number sequence to 270 27 N m (200 18 lb ft).
Tighten Bolts 1 through 20 in the number sequence to 390 10 N m (289 7 lb ft).
Tighten Bolts 1 through 20 in the number sequence again to 390 10 N m (289 7 lb ft).
Install the rocker arm group.
Tighten Bolts 21 through 26 in the number sequence to 270 27 N m (200 18 lb ft).
Tighten Bolts 21 through 26 in the number sequence to 390 10 N m (289 7 lb ft).
Tighten Bolts 21 through 26 in the number sequence again to 390 10 N m (289 7 lb ft).
Install bolts (2) . Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 43 7 N m (33 5 lb ft).
Use the tightening sequence below to tighten the bolts that hold the cylinder head in position. Refer to Illustration 5. Apply engine oil to the threads of bolts (1) and bolts (2) . Install bolts (1) and bolts (2) .
Tighten Bolts 1 through 20 in the number sequence to 270 27 N m (200 18 lb ft).
Tighten Bolts 1 through 20 in the number sequence to 450 20 N m (332 7 lb ft).
Tighten Bolts 1 through 20 in the number sequence again to 450 20 N m (332 7 lb ft).
Install the rocker arm group.
Tighten Bolts 21 through 26 in the number sequence to 270 27 N m (200 18 lb ft).
Tighten Bolts 21 through 26 in the number sequence to 450 20 N m (332 7 lb ft).
Tighten Bolts 21 through 26 in the number sequence again to 450 20 N m (332 7 lb ft).
Install bolts (2) . Tighten Bolts 2 to a torque of 43 7 N m (33 5 lb ft).

Install the rocker arm group.
Tighten Bolts 15 through 18 in the number sequence to 270 27 N m (200 18 lb ft).
Tighten Bolts 15 through 18 in the number sequence to 450 20 N m (332 7 lb ft).
Tighten Bolts 15 through 18 in the number sequence again to 450 20 N m (332 7 lb ft).
Install bolts (2) . Tighten Bolts 2 to a torque of 43 7 N m (33 5 lb ft).
Use the tightening sequence below to tighten the bolts that hold the cylinder head in position. Refer to Illustration 6. Lubricate bolts (1) and bolts (2) with clean engine oil. Install bolts (1) and bolts (2) .
Tighten Bolts 1 through 14 in the number sequence to 270 27 N m (200 18 lb ft).
Tighten Bolts 1 through 14 in the number sequence to 390 10 N m (289 7 lb ft).
