Information:
Introduction
These truck engines have an ADEM 2000 engine control module (ECM): C-10, C-12, 3406E, C-15 and C-16. This publication describes the requirements for installing these engines into chassis for previous model years. The installation will require the following items:
Software, JERD2124, "Electronic Technician Program"
Truck Engine Data Subscription, JERD2125, "Electronic Technician Truck Engine Data Subscription"
Getting Started Book, JEBD3003, "Electronic Technician Software - Gettng Started Book Version 2.3"
7X-1700 Communication Adapter or a 171-4400 Communication Adapter ll
139-4166 Data Link Cable
7X-1425 Data Link Cable
133-8109 Wiring Harness Adapter for connecting a 40-pin connector to a 70-pin connector
9G-3695 Sealing Plugs or 8T-8737 Sealing Plugs
151-6320 Wire Removal Tool or equivalent
Application and Installation Guide, LEBT9010, "C-10, C-12, C-15, and C-16 Truck Engines"
Service Manual, RENR1289, "C-10, C-12, 3406E, C-15, and C-16 Engines - Electronic PTO Installation and Applications" This is used for a vehicle that will require a PTO.

Modifications to the cooling system
Modifications to the air inlet system
Modifications to the exhaust systemNote: The cooling system, the air inlet system and the exhaust system may require changes. This publication does not detail these changes due to the variety of installations of the OEM. Contact the OEM for the required modifications. The adapter harness assembly may require modifications. No changes are required for the following features.
Check Engine Lamp
Warning Lamp
Speedometer
Tachometer
Vehicle Speed Sensor
Cruise Control
Clutch Switch
Brake Switch
Engine Retarder
Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor
Coolant Level Sensor
A/C High Pressure Switch
J1922, J1587, and J1939 Data LinksCustomer Programmable Parameters
Connect Electronic Technician (ET) to the ADEM ll engine before you remove the ADEM ll engine from the chassis. View the "System Configuration Parameters" screen. Record the "Customer Parameter Settings" on the "Customer Parameter Worksheet" from Troubleshooting Guide, RENR2238, "Troubleshooting C-10, C-12, 3406E, C-15, and C-16 Truck Engines". When the ADEM 2000 engine is installed, all the customer parameters must be reprogrammed. The settings for the customer parameter for the ADEM 2000 ECM should be identical to the settings for the customer parameter for the ADEM ll ECM. This publication also describes the new options for programming the ADEM 2000 ECM.Note: The "Copy Configuration" feature on ET can be used to transfer most of the parameters from the ADEM ll ECM to the ADEM 2000 ECM. This can only be performed with an ET version 3.0 or newer software. Record the parameters and program the parameters. The ECM may fail if an older version of ET or an old configuration file is used. Record the customer specified parameters for the ADEM ll on the "Customer Parameter Worksheet". Manually program any parameters that could not be copied.Wiring Harness Adapter
An adapter harness assembly is required in order to replace a truck engine that has an ADEM ll ECM with a truck engine that has a ADEM 2000 ECM. The original engine's ADEM ll ECM has two 40-Pin connectors. The ADEM 2000 ECM has two 70-Pin connectors. Use a 133-8109 Harness to adapt your vehicle wiring to the ADEM 2000 engine.Customizing The Wiring Harness Adapter For Your Application
Some features will require changes to the 70-Pin connector wiring. Use the proper tool to change terminals. Use a 151-6320 Wire Removal Tool . Seal the unused cavities of the connector. Use 9G-3695 Sealing Plugs or 8T-8737 Sealing Plugs in order to seal the unused cavities of the connector.Wiring Changes
Note: The changes in the wiring are made to the 70-Pin connector of the adapter wiring harness.Note: Changes to the wiring will depend on programming of the ADEM 2000 ECM. Read the following information and look at the tables. Determine the functions that are best for your application.Auxiliary Power Relay
If the Transmission Style parameter was programmed to "Eaton Top 2", an auxiliary power relay was used to provide a redundant power supply to the ECM.The auxiliary power relay is not required for an Eaton Top 2 transmission when the Eaton Top 2 transmission is used with an ADEM 2000 ECM. The auxiliary power relay and wiring can be disconnected and removed from the vehicle."Multifunction Output 1"
Illustration 1 g00677788
"Multifunction Output 1" is on terminal 21 of the 40-Pin Connector. "Multifunction Output 1" can be used as an output for a PTO Switch "On" lamp. The "PTO Configuration" Parameter can be programmed to "Cab Switches", "Remote Switches", or "Remote Throttle". There are no changes to the wiring harness."Multifunction Output 2"
"Multifunction Output 2" is on terminal 40 of the 40-Pin Connector. "Multifunction Output 2" can be used for an Eaton Top 2 Shift Solenoid, an Engine Running Output, an Engine Shutdown Output, or an Auxiliary Brake Output.
Illustration 2 g00552704
The "Multifunction Output 2" Parameter is programmed to "Shift Solenoid" when you are using an Eaton Top 2 transmission. The "Transmission Style" Parameter for the ADEM 2000 must be programmed to "Eaton Top 2". The "Top Gear Ratio", "Top Gear Minus One Ratio", and "Top Gear Minus Two Ratio" parameters must be programmed accordingly. In the 70-Pin connector, the wire on terminal 10 must be moved to terminal 20. Output 7 is automatically configured as a "Shift Solenoid Output" if the "Transmission Style" Parameter for the ADEM 2000 is programmed to the "Eaton Top 2" setting.
Illustration 3 g00677953
If the "Multifunction Output 2" Parameter is programmed to "Engine Running Output" parameter, the "Engine Running Output" Parameter for the ADEM 2000 must be programmed to J1/P1:10. There are no changes to the wiring harness. If the "Multifunction Output 2" Parameter is programmed to "Engine Shutdown Output", the "Engine Shutdown Output" Parameter for the ADEM 2000 must be programmed to J1/P1:10. There are no changes to the wiring harness.
Illustration 4 g00678132
If the "Multifunction Output 2" Parameter is programmed to "Auxiliary Brake", the "Auxiliary Retarder" Parameter for the ADEM 2000 must be programmed to J1/P1:12. In the 70-Pin connector, the wire on terminal 10 must be moved to terminal 12. The wire that was originally installed on terminal 12 must be removed. Refer
