Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Inspect the J1/P1 ECM connector, the Throttle Lock Enable switch, the Throttle Lock Set/Resume switch, any other connectors in the circuit and the associated wiring. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for details.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires in the ECM connectors that are associated with the circuit.
Check the ECM connector (allen head screw) for the proper torque. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for details.
Check the harness and wiring for abrasion and for pinch points.Expected Result:All connectors, pins, and sockets are correctly coupled and/or inserted and the harness and wiring are free of corrosion, of abrasion and of pinch points. Results:
OK - The harness and connectors appear to be OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - There is a fault in the connectors and/or wiring.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Ensure that all of the seals are correctly installed and ensure that the connectors are correctly coupled.Verify that the repair eliminates the fault.STOPTest Step 2. Check for Active Diagnostic Codes
Connect the electronic service tool to the diagnostic connector.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position. Start the engine.
Monitor the active diagnostic code screen on the electronic service tool. Check and record any active diagnostic codes. Look for the following diagnostic codes:
549-2
2770-3
2770-4
2771-3
2771-4 Note: Wait at least 30 seconds in order for the diagnostic codes to become active.Expected Result:No diagnostic codes are active. Results:
OK - No diagnostic code is active.Repair: The fault is no longer present. If the fault is intermittent, refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect".STOP
Not OK - A 549-2 diagnostic code is active at this time. Proceed to Test Step 3.
Not OK - A 2770-3, 2770-4, 2771-3 or 2771-4 diagnostic code is active at this time. Proceed to Test Step 6.Test Step 3. Check the Status of the Throttle Lock Enable Switch on the Electronic Service Tool
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Move the throttle lock enable switch to the ON position and observe the status of the "Throttle Lock Switch" on the electronic service tool. The status should be "On".
Move the throttle lock enable switch to the OFF position and observe the status of the "Throttle Lock Switch" on the electronic service tool. The status should be "Off".Expected Result:The status should change accordingly as you change switch positions. Results:
OK - The throttle lock enable switch appears to be operating properly at this time.Repair: The fault may be intermittent. If the fault is intermittent, refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect".STOP
Not OK - There is a fault in the circuit for the throttle lock enable switch. Proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 4. Short the Wires at the Throttle Lock Enable Switch
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the connector for the throttle lock enable switch.
Install a jumper wire with male spade terminals on each end between terminal 2 (Ground) and terminal 3 (Throttle Lock Enable) on the wiring harness connector for the throttle lock enable switch.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Observe the status of the throttle lock enable switch on the electronic service tool. The status should be "On".
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Remove the jumper wire.Expected Result:The status should change accordingly as the terminals in the wiring harness connector are shorted. Results:
OK - The ECM and the wiring harness are functioning properly.Repair: Replace the throttle lock enable switch.Verify that the repair eliminates the fault.STOP
Not OK - There is a fault in the circuit between the ECM and the throttle lock enable switch. Proceed to Test Step 5.Test Step 5. Short the
