Table 1
Diagnostic Codes Table
Code and Description     Conditions which Generate this Code     System Response
363-5 Machine Ride Control Actuator : Current Below Normal     The ECM has been powered for three seconds. For the last two seconds, the battery supply voltage is greater than 9 VDC.
An open circuit or a short to +battery condition has existed for 0.15 seconds.     The diagnostic is logged in memory and ride control function is disabled.
363-6 Ride Control Solenoid short to groundl     The ECM has been powered for three seconds. For the last two seconds, the battery supply voltage is greater than 9 VDC.
A short to ground existed for 0.15 seconds.     The diagnostic is logged in memory and ride control function is disabled.    Ride control provides a smoother ride. In the automatic mode, this function cushions the bucket when the vehicle speed is above 9.5 km/h (6 mph). This prevents the bucket from bouncing up and down when the operator is carrying a load of material. The ECM uses two switch inputs to determine the mode for ride control. The ride control switch in the UP position will automatically determine when the ride control system will engage. With the switch in the CENTER position, the ride control function is disabled. The switch in the DOWN allows the operator to override the automatic control of the ride control solenoid. Allowing the system to remain active at all timesThe ride control function is disabled if a problem is detected with the switch inputs to the ECM.

Schematic for the ride control solenoidTest Step 1. Check for Connector Damage
Remove electrical power from the ECM.

ECM (1) J1/P1 connectors (2) J2/P2 connectors
Thoroughly inspect the J1/P1 and thoroughly inspect the J2/P2 ECM connectors. Thoroughly inspect any connectors that are associated with the ride control solenoid. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect".

P2 ECM connector (P2-7) PWM driver & Solenoid return (P2-13) Ride control solenoid
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires for the lamp circuits.
Check the torque of the allen head screw on the ECM connectors. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for the correct torque values.
Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion and for pinch points from the dash display back to the ECM.Expected Result:All of the connectors, pins and sockets are completely coupled and/or inserted and the harness and wiring are free of corrosion, of abrasion and of pinch points. Results:
OK - The harness and connectors appear to be OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - The connectors and/or wiring are not OK.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Ensure that all of the seals are properly in place and ensure that the connectors are completely coupled.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 2. Check the Solenoid for the Internal Short or Open
Disconnect J79/P79.
Set a multimeter on the 200 Ohm scale and measure the resistance between J79 pin-1 and J79 pin-2.Expected Result:The resistance is between 26 and 56 Ohms. Results:
OK - Proceed to next step.
Not OK - The solenoid is faulty.Repair: Replace the solenoid.STOPTest Step 3. Check the Voltage at the Solenoid
Reconnect J79/P79.
Connect the CAT ET to the service tool connector. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Service Tools".
Turn the keyswitch to the ON.
Select the override parameter on Cat ET. Then set the ride control "ON".
Use the signal reading probes to measure the voltage between J79 pin-1 and J79 pin-2.Expected Result:The voltage is greater than 18 VDC.Results:
Ok - The correct supply voltage is reaching the solenoid and the solenoid has resistance. If the system is not working properly, check mechanical operation of solenoid. Inspect the electrical connectors if an intermittent problem continues.STOP
Not OK - Proceed to next step.Test Step 4. Check the Solenoid Voltage at ECM
Use Signal reading probes to measure the solenoid voltage between P2 -13 and P2 -7.Expected Result:The voltage is greater than 18 VDC.Results:
Ok - There is an open circuit or excessive resistance in the harness between the ECM and the solenoid. Replace the wire harness.STOP
Not OK - Proceed to next step.Test Step 5. Check for Shorts in Harness
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF/RESETposition.
Disconnect J79/P79 and J2/P2.
Set a multimeter on the 20,000 Ohm scale and measure the resistance between 1 and 2 on the connector pins for the ride control solenoid.
Measure the resistance between P79 pin-1 and engine ground. Measure the resistance between P79 pin-2 and engine ground.Expected Result:Resistance is more than 20,000 Ohms for each measurement. Results:
Ok - Proceed to next step.
Not OK - There is a short in the harness between the ECM and the solenoid. Repair the wire harness or replace the wire harness.STOPTest Step 6. Check the Solenoid Voltage at ECM
Reconnect all connectors.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON Position.
Select the override parameter on Cat ET. Then set the ride control "ON".
Use signal reading probes to measure the solenoid voltage between P2 pin-13 and P2 pin-7.Expected Result:The voltage is greater than 18 VDC.Results:
OK - There is an intermittent problem in the harness.STOP
Not OK - The ride control solenoid and the wire harness are OK. Replace the ECM. STOP
