Remove the engine hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove" in the service manual.
Remove the fan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan - Remove" in the service manual.
Deactivate the electrical system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery Disconnect Switch" in order to deactivate the electrical system.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contamination of the hydraulic system with foreign material will reduce the service life of the hydraulic system components. To prevent contaminants from entering the hydraulic system, always plug or cap the lines, fittings, or hoses as they are disconnected. Cover any disassembled components and clean them properly before assembly.Clean the hydraulic system properly after any major component exchange or especially after a component failure, to remove any contamination.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns. To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.
Note: The following procedure has an attachment valve that is mounted next to the main pump. The exact amount of hoses will vary depending on your machine configuration. Remove only the hoses that are necessary to remove the main hydraulic pump.Note: A hydraulic oil sample should be obtained before any maintenance is performed in order to establish the system contaminant level. Refer to Fluid Analysis Laboratory Guide, SEBF3116, "Obtaining an Oil Sample for S O S Analysis". Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Sampling Interval and Location of Sampling Valve" for the correct location.
Release the hydraulic system pressure.Reference: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" in this manual.
Personal injury can result from contact with refrigerant.Contact with refrigerant can cause frost bite. Keep face and hands away to help prevent injury.Protective goggles must always be worn when refrigerant lines are opened, even if the gauges indicate the system is empty of refrigerant.Always use precaution when a fitting is removed. Slowly loosen the fitting. If the system is still under pressure, release it slowly in a well ventilated area.Personal injury or death can result from inhaling refrigerant through a lit cigarette.Inhaling air conditioner refrigerant gas through a lit cigarette or other smoking method or inhaling fumes released from a flame contacting air conditioner refrigerant gas, can cause bodily harm or death.Do not smoke when servicing air conditioners or wherever refrigerant gas may be present.Use a certified recovery and recycling cart to properly remove the refrigerant from the air conditioning system.
Effective July 1, 1992 regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publications Service Manuals, SENR3334, SENR5664, and NEDG5065 for the proper procedure, the proper equipment, and the proper tools needed in order to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar equipment.
Note: Reclaim the refrigerant before any lines are loosened or before any bolts are loosened.
Reclaim the refrigerant in the air conditioning system.Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Refrigerant Recovery" for the correct procedure.

Remove eight bolts and the washers in order to remove two access covers (1) that are under the main hydraulic pump.
Drain the oil from the hydraulic oil tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the hydraulic oil tank is 120 L (32 US gal).Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance, "Hydraulic System Oil - Change" in the service manual.
