Open the right side engine door and remove the right side access cover. Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, clean the exterior of the component to help prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.
Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedure.

Use Tooling (A) to remove oil filter (6).
Disconnect hose assembly (4) and remove clip (5).
Remove bolts (2) and (3). Remove engine oil filter base (1) and the gasket .

Remove engine oil cooler (7) and the gasket.

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Remove plug (8), O-ring seal (9), spring (10), and valve (11) from oil filter base (6).
Remove stud (12).
Remove plug (16), O-ring seal (15), spring (14), and valve (13) from oil filter base (6). Installation Procedure
Install engine oil filter (6), oil filter base (1), and oil cooler (7) in the reverse order of removal.
