Before assembly, check the location of the dowel and the height of each camshaft journal. Refer to Specifications, "Camshaft" for the assembled height of each dowel.Note: Install the camshaft journals with the locating groove toward the front of the engine for both standard rotation engines and reverse rotation engines.Install the camshaft segments in the orientation that was noted during removal.Note: Engine rotation is observed from the flywheel end of the engine.

Apply clean engine oil to the rear camshaft bearing.
Use two people in order to install shaft assembly (19) . The weight of shaft assembly (19) is approximately 27 kg (59 lb). Put the spacer in position on shaft assembly (19) . Align the dowel in the shaft assembly with the dowel hole in the camshaft segment. Install shaft assembly (19) .
Install plate (18) and bolts (17) on shaft assembly (19) .
Install governor drive gear (16) and bolts (15) on shaft assembly (19) .

Move the camshaft to the rear against the plate.
Put shims (13) in position on pinion assembly (11) . Install new O-ring seals (14) . Apply clean engine oil to the O-ring seals.
Put pinion assembly (11) in position in rear housing (10) . Install the bolts that hold pinion assembly (11) .Note: Be sure that the camshaft is all the way to the rear against the plate assembly when you check the backlash between the gears. Also, be sure that the pinion is forced upward against the plate assembly when you check the backlash between the gears. When you set the backlash, be sure that the camshaft is not placed in a forward position. There will not be enough clearance between the gears when the camshaft moves rearward.
Use Tooling (E) to check the backlash between the pinion gear and the governor drive gear. As needed, add shims or remove shims (13) in order to obtain a backlash of 0.25 0.05 mm (0.010 0.002 inch).
Install coupling (12) .
