Earlier Machine Shown2. Loosen the lower nut on adjusting rod (1) to loosen the V-belt tension.3. Remove the V-belts (2) from the alternator pulley.
Do not damage the radiator core(s), when the fan is disconnected from the fan drive.
Earlier Machine Shown4. Fasten strap (4) and hoist to the adapter and fan.5. Remove bolts (3) that hold the adapter and fan to the fan drive.
Earlier Machine Shown6. Carefully put the fan and adapter (5) in position against the radiator core.7. Remove V-belts (2) from the fan drive.
Earlier Machine Shown8. Fasten strap (8) and a hoist to fan drive (6).9. Remove bolts (7), the nuts and fan drive (6). The weight of the fan drive is approximately 29 Kg (65 lb.). The following steps are for the installation of the fan drive.10. Fasten a strap and hoist to fan drive (6) and put it into position on the engine and install the nuts and bolts (7).11. Install V-belts (2) on the fan drive as shown.12. Fasten strap (4) and a hoist to adapter (5) and the fan.13. Put adapter (5) and the fan in position and install bolts (3).14. Install V-belts (2) on the alternator pulley as shown.15. Use a belt tension gauge such as Borroughs Tool Company Part No. BT-33-72C or an equivalent and make an adjustment of V-belts. Measure the belt nearest the radiator. Tighten new belts until the gauge indication is 534 22 N (120 5 lb.). Tighten the bolts that hold the alternator in position. Operate the engine at high idle for a minimum of 30 minutes. Make another adjustment of the belt tension. The correct gauge indication for used belts is 400 44 N (90 10 lb.).16. Install the hood.Disassemble And Assemble Fan Drive
Start By:a. remove fan drive
Pulley Is Not Shown In Illustration.1. On earlier machines, remove the O-ring seal from around bearing (10). (The O-ring seal is not shown in the illustration). On earlier machines, bend the tabs on the lock around bolts (4) before attempting to remove bolts (4).2. Remove two bolts (4), the lock, and washer (6).3. Remove the pulley (not shown), spacer (1) and hub (3) from bracket assembly (5).4. If fitting (2) is damaged, remove the fitting and replace it with a new part.5. Remove bearing (10) from hub (3). Remove spacer (9) from the hub.6. Remove seal (7), and remove bearing (8) from hub (3). The following steps are for the assembly of the fan drive.7. Install the pulley (not shown) on hub (3).8. Install bearing (8) in hub (3).9. Use tooling (A) to install lip type seal (7) in hub (3) with the lip of the seal up. The top of the seal must be even with the end of the hub.10. Put 5P960 Multipurpose Grease on the lip of seal (7).11. Install spacer (1) in seal (7). Make sure the mounting bolts for bracket assembly (5) are put in position before the pulley and hub are installed on the bracket assembly.12. Put the pulley and hub (3) on bracket assembly (5).13. Install spacer (9) on the shaft of bracket assembly (5). Hand pack bearing (10) with 2S3230 Bearing Lubricant prior to assembly.14. Fill the hub cavity with 2S3230 Bearing Lubricant, and install bearing (10).15. Install washer (6), the lock on earlier machines, and two bolts (4).16. On earlier machines, bend the tabs on the lock around bolts (4).17. On earlier machines, install the O-ring seal around bearing (10).
