Introduction
This special instruction contains the information necessary to install updated machine, monitor, and engine software. The updated software will resolve issues with active regeneration and auxiliary flow rate.Safety
Tampering with the electronic system installation of the OEM wiring installation can be dangerous and could result in personal injury or death and/or engine damage.

Active Regeneration Not Occurring in Parked Regeneration and Manual Regeneration Modes
There are three different problems associated with the active regeneration not occurring:
The 308E2 may not perform active regeneration (in-cylinder dosing) during a parked regeneration, or during a manual Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) regeneration. Regeneration will not occur even if engine speed is automatically increased by the engine Electronic Control Module (ECM). During the two regeneration modes, the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) inlet temperature must be at least 250° C (482° F) for active regeneration to begin. This temperature is not being reached during these two regeneration modes.
The machine software is inhibiting regeneration when at the manual regeneration level. The "3701 - 16 DPF Status: High - Moderate" severity code is associated with this software program.
The monitor is not displaying active engine diagnostic codes or alarms that are occurring.Auxiliary Flow Rate Not Modulated by the Monitor
The auxiliary flow rate is not modulated when the rate is adjusted (1-15) through the monitor. Electrical current mapping values in the software are incorrect sending max current to the auxiliary valve solenoid and providing full flow to the work tool.Solutions
Update the machine, monitor, and engine software to resolve these issues. The software files are available on Service Information System (SIS) web under "Service Software Files" and then select "Flash Files". The software part numbers and the changes are listed below.Software Descriptions
The new 452-2960 Machine Software Gp is used to upgrade the machine software. The improvements are listed below:
Increases the engine speed setting from 7 to 10 during park and manual regeneration.
Resolves regeneration inhibited at the manual regeneration level.
Improves the auxiliary hydraulic flow rate modulation of the work tool function. The new 452-2961 Monitor Software Gp is used to upgrade the monitor software. The improvements are listed below:
Improves the monitor DPF warning indicators.
Resolves the issue of the engine diagnostic codes not creating warnings on the monitor. The new 450-3214 Engine Software Gp is used to upgrade the engine software.Note: There are two engine software file types available for download in SIS web. It is recommended to use the fls version and to flash the Engine ECM using Cat ET.This does require Cat ET24014A or later. If you do not have Cat ET2014A or later, then refer to Special Instruction, REHS9223, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) and Dosing Control Unit (DCU) Flashing Procedure for the C2.4, C3.3B, and C3.8 Engines" for how to flash using 450-3214 Engine Software file with theEngine Reprogramming tool.Machine, Monitor, and Engine Software Flash using ET and the ".FLS" Files
Connect the Cat® Communication Adapter 3 to the machine.
Turn the key switch to the ON position with the engine not running.
Turn the engine throttle switch to position "1".Note: The machine speed setting must be in position "1". If the setting is at any other number, the flash will not successfully occur.
Illustration 1 g03581901
Launch Cat ET and capture the Engine Serial Number, Engine ECM Serial Number, Monitor Software Group Part Number, and Machine Control Part Numbers. If there is an unsuccessful flash, these numbers may be required. Refer to Illustration 1.
Launch Winflash and select the "4522960.fls" file in the "Machine Control Module", "4522961.fls" file in the "Cab", and the "4503214.fls" file in the "Engine" field previously downloaded from SIS web.
Select "Begin Flash" and wait for new files to be uploaded.Note: You should receive a message that the flash file was successful. If you receive a successful message the flash file is complete.Note: When the machine ECM is flashed, some engine diagnostic codes will be created due to the loss of communication between the engine ECM and the machine ECM. This is normal, but it is recommended that these codes be cleared. These codes will show up as CAN Data Link codes. After flashing the machine ECM, turn the key switch OFF and back ON (engine not running) and these codes will change from active to logged. With the key switch ON (engine not running) clears the logged codes.
